Furniture too masculine?

They don't criticize Katey's furniture as too feminine. Double standard.

I agree. I think it is odd that Tim gets called out for being 'masculine', when I as a female, LOVED the bar he created. What makes furniture 'masculine' anyway? Because it had wood? Because it had darker tones? To call furniture masculine is sexist in itself because it stereotypes certain furniture to be something that can only be for girls or only for boys (which is BS). Furniture is unisex in my opinion.

I didn't think Katey's was feminine. It would work for either gender.

I think that piece was masculine in a way, but I liked it. Not sure what they thought it should have - a flower on it? Pink paint?

Her furniture has been very feminine. I would call it 'girly' or 'Barbie', definitely for young women or teenage girls. She is a good designer and I liked her work but would never own it for myself.

Tim tends to include industrial facets in his designs, which can be mistaken for more "masculine." Some of his designs were good, but we didn't like them enough to purchase them. We found Katie's designs amusing, and we would have purchased several of them. It is all a matter of taste, though.

Put puppy mills out of business: never buy dogs from pet shops! 

I didn't think the bar was too masculine. I loved the look of it. I did think the design was flawed. The place that he had the glasses was very awkward and it seemed to me like they could get broken.

Masculine or feminine, it's a matter of personal taste. I didn't think calling Tim's bar too masculine was fair criticism.

I like Katie's furniture. She is one of my favorite designers on the show. I don't think it's too feminine. But I would be scared to buy it. She used a plastic material (I believe) in the wardrobe. So if it got scratched, that scratch would stand out. It's also shiny plastic so I would worry that it would get fingerprints.
