"Mohen Jo Daro" in Sindhi language means "Town of the dead", and this name was given to the site because of its unknown facts. Archealogists from around the world have nothing much about this civilization. Hence it was named in local language as Town of the dead or Mohen Jo Daro.
Is this a blunder by the producers and directors of the movie that they did not think about it? They are calling their city in the movie as "Mohen Jo Daro" while living there. How can people living in a society calling their city as "Town of the dead" ....?
Then they should have called it something more logical or sane. This seem nothing but ignorance towards the investigation about the subject before filming it. Nobody would call their city with this name.
I knew it. I was thinking the same. I didn't see the movie, and already i could tell it was going to similar to Atlantis. Hence the reputation of Bollywood holds 'copycat'.
Your point is well taken. Unfortunately, no one knows the original name. All modern people know it by is, 'Mohenjo Daro', at least in English-written history books. Making up a name would make it very confusing. At least using the name, Mohenjo Daro, makes it recognizable to every here today.
Your point is good, but as mentioned by someone here, it would have been confusing to name it anything other than Mohenjo Daro. Let's say, the makers called it Indupradesh - audience would start wondering what the hell?!
I have read that response. But still I do a little disagree. Because, the history they have told about the location and the site about which this movie is about, could be well-described. Or, there is another way, and it could make the movie more interesting by the end of it. What if they had not mention the name of the civilization through out the movie, and by the end when they had shown destruction of the civilization they could have added up a little scene, where people after centuries are standing at the site and finding the facts about it and than it is said "Hell, we don't find anything about it except a few corpses, this is literally Mohen jo Daro" .. This could have left the audience in state of surprise, realizing the fact all of sudden that Oh, it was mohen jo daro. In my blurr image of it in my mind, this could have made the movie a block bluster historical flick.
The director has said in interviews that he chose to keep the name Mohenjo Daro, even though it wasn't the name of the city at the time, because it is currently its only known name and to give it a new one would have been confusing for audiences. So maybe next time do your research before going around calling people ignorant and coming off looking like a fool.
Also, notice how in the beginning of the film they are speaking "made-up ancient language" and then the film switches to Hindi after a few minutes. In reality the characters in the story are still speaking "made-up ancient language", it is only we the audience who are hearing it as Hindi. Therefore, one can surmise that every time they say "Mohenjo Daro", they are actually saying the "real name" of the city in their "made-up ancient language", but we hear as "Mohenjo Daro" because that is the name we know. Case closed.
Cameron Diaz says marriage is dead. Marries a guy after 7 months. Drop it like it's legal precedent!
You are happened to be found the most delusional guy in IMDB may be. Assuming so many things at the same time?? May be you are hearing so many things these days which don't exist... need a doctor?? Ancient languages? Really? It is sindhi you ignorant. Local language of sindhi people. Secondly, my point still stays, the director didn't want the audience to be confused and to maintain this, he did something STUPID. My point is not about using the current name of the city, my objection is about the meaning of that name is totally ignored by the director. It means "city of the dead", the director never noticed it or he never found it weird that the people of a city are calling their city as "town of the dead" ... it is hilarious yet ignorance. So better read carefully next time. And one more thing for the readers. There is no GANGA river nearby Mohen jo Daro site. How dare the director called the river as "Ganga" in the end. He distorted the facts. Go do some research after seeing a good doctor. :P
Wow, a guy apparently incapable of reading and understanding what I'm saying telling me I should "read carefully next time". Best joke I've seen in a while. I guess there's no need to discuss this with you further as you're clearly an idiot and/or a troll.

you ethical behavior needs to be addressed seriously. I pity you. You have been taught to use bad language when you have no proper answers. SO, Suit urself buddy, and get well soon. ;)
"ethical behavior"? "bad language"? LOL. If there was any doubt left before that you have lost this debate and have nothing to say it's gone now. Some people would bow out gracefully, but I guess you lack the decency to do that. You can go on trying to pretend I haven't schooled you, I'm done replying to your tantrums.

I remember reading about Mohenjo Daro and harappa as a kid. In Indian history books back in the 90s. they never mentioned the true meaning of the names.
most Indians do not care about the meaning. It's a name they can identify with.
And you must know now, that it is not something we call knowledge. It is rather opposite of it. Calling something with any x y z name without knowing the meaning? Absurd.
