Bad Santa Meets the Tanya Harding Story

If "Bad Santa" and The "Tonya Harding Story" had a child this movie would be the evil spawn! Melissa Rauch is disgustingly inappropriate and funny.

Good analysis. Agree!

Tonya got involved with the wrong people. She didn't know what they were planning. She found out after and kept her mouth shut. So that's messed up. Still comparing her to this horrible person isn't fair.

I'm fine with the analogy. And I agree - Tonya got swept up, with the wrong people. But I don't think she was a dupe in this. They did find a note in the trash in her handwriting, of where Nancy would be training. Talk about a gang of dimwits that couldn't shoot straight! They were all pathetic. And as usual - the woman pays for their crimes. The skating union had to come down hard on her, and did.
Fate was never on Tonya's side in life, and I've always felt sorry for her the way she had to battle the tide, and fight for everything. If only she had more support in life. Most skaters are poised and attractive. And come from money. Tonya was the linebacker of skating. She plowed through the competition with little art, but lots of athleticism. But her trailerpark persona never found a home in the world of skaters.

Of that crew, she had the most to lose and thus she lost the most.

And yet, when all was done - she made millionaires out of the other skaters. Skate competitions and shows were on every weekend. She won gold for the skating world!

Yeah Tonya got a raw deal. No question. And while Nancy didn't deserve that, she was really, really unlikable. They should make a movie about those two.

Tonya was unlikeable..Nancy was and still to me is symphatetic.

As for the movie at hand, it's real funny, with the addition of the Pinnochio-as-innocent-pre-lying character of Maggie (up and comer Haley Lu Richardson, like at least a few here and one reviewer, this is the first time that I saw her, read from the latter-mentioned, that she's in the new M.Night Shymalan. In short, Hope Ann pretends to take Maggie under his wing, Maggie innocently aware of Hope Ann's craftiness and hopeful ulterior motives, even with the two (favorite scene) lying down on the gum mat, chanting about being cute..very funny with a) Hope Ann being not whom she seems/whom Maggie thinks and b) Maggie's own gullibility ("Cute to the right, cute to left, not uncute"-first two said each time by each girl, third said twice by both Hope Ann then by Maggie-then Sell it to the bitchass judges. :)). Likewise, when they first meet, almost as much, Maggie when H.A. winds up in her family home:"I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE IN MY ROOM"(caps intended to show her naive enthusiasm.) WONDERFUL movie. Streamed it on Amazon (missed it in its limited distributed/limited release) and have enjoyed it numerous towns. Nice to see it set and filmed in the generally overlooked small Ohio town of Elmhurst. Even makes a non-visitor, or former native, want to go there.

Sebastian Stan as the REAL top villian, whom both Maggie and Hope Ann need to get rid of, and Gary Cole as Hope's father, are also often admire and very good..good attempt to get a Big Bang Theory TV show girl into this (Kaley Cucuo, the original, and Mayim Bialik, haven't had a movie lately, and they've HAD prioir sitcom experience-KC in the late John Ritter's last, along with Bad Santa, which in fact was correcttly analogized, here, and I support this as well, and that show with Kaley was "Ten ways to marry my teenage daughter"-of course of Melissa Rauch's fellow girls from "The Big Bang Theory", Mayim "Blossom" Bialak had the first major exposure, on TV with the show just mentioned in her name.) As far I know, Melissa Rauch (Bernadette*) is the ONLY one NOT to have a major exposure-TV sitcom like Mayim (Amy*) and Kaley (Penny*).

And then the whole part of Hope's coaching of Melissa, due to her dad finding out (or so we and she thinks**) that there is a big payment for coaching, only to find out that that Mr.Gregory set it all up to see how much of a help to the community that Hope Ann could make herself. **See..a brilliant surprise before the ending!.
*Denotes, for non-"Big Bang Theory" fans, or those who are, to remind me, each actress's BBT character.
