Mapes is not a victim...

Clearly she didn’t do her job vetting her sources and rushed the story. She was in the wrong. I felt like the movie was trying to say she was treated unfairly. I don’t see it that way, JMO.

I think it shows the hubris of human beings and how righteous indignation often leads to our own downfall. It shows how much contempt human beings have for one another. It also highlights how little the Truth matters anymore. Human beings care more about how they THINK it is than how it actually is.

The film tries its hardest to make her into one, though - right down to the 'My Dad hit me as a child, so now I can't handle people being nasty to me!" detail... You should always check your sources, and if you don't use due diligence, then people are going to ask questions about your partiality... That's just a simple (and fair!) fact of life. Now sure, the people calling into question your professionalism may be doing so for reasons that are not ethically sound, themselves... but if they get you on a technicality, they still get you, so make sure your research is impeccable!

'Journalists get fired because they couldn't prove a story that was probably true'... I would EXPECT that, because if you think it's true, then you should be able to make it stick. Seems fair to me, and I'm a leftie liberal! 
