Liz car named after Marlon Brando

Are teenage girls really that unfamiliar with Marlon Brando? He only died in 2004, and it seems like he had enough of an impact on the movies for existing generations of kids to know who he was.

reply

Yeah, but there really are some people who have no clue who The Beatles or Patty Smith are!

Hey, I can remember when Hollywood was acting like my generation didn't know who The Beatles were (which isn't true). I can see that with the kids of today, although Laura herself is a fan of classic rock, including Paul McCartney, so there's no doubt she knew what he did before Wings.

This kind of thing bothered me with "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." The book and the movie took place in the early-1990's, so it wouldn't make sense for me to believe the kids of that generation would be so unfamiliar with David Bowie, even "Heroes" and other stuff from the time they were born. I did meet an 18-year-old girl who worked in a drug store a couple of years ago who didn't know who David Bowie was though. The store was blaring a cover of the song and I wasn't sure about the band who was covering it.

Yeah they can be clueless unless their parents watch his movies. My mom always watched classic films with us as kids. I actually prefer them over a lot of current movies.

reply

Yes, but his career went to sh*t in the '90s, which is when Laura (and MONICA) were born. Besides, his most celebrated movies weren't exactly targeted at teens.
