thought the romulan star empire wasn't suppose to he known yet

in star trek enterprise where archer met the one guy who really wasn't a member of the crew cause he was from the future, which i can't remember his name, brought archer to his future place and was in some library and when he was busy doing something, archer sees a book call the romulan star empire and that guy told him which i can't remember what he said, but something along the lines archer wasn't suppose to know them yet. so how is it in this movie, the romulans are shooting at a starfleet ship trying to get a woman t'mar? it should have shown how starfleet and the romulans know each other. i think this movie is boring so i stopped watching it online. hope someone out there can explain how starfleet meets the romulans but is it too soon to meet? we have seen the romulans in star trek the original series but that show is set 100 years after archer.

They did have a war...At least in the Book Series.
I read somewhere if the show Enterprise was given a 5th season they would have gone into 'The War' with the Romulans.
They were building up to that in the 4th season...

What I remember from the books though is that they never SAW what the Romulans looked like and the Vulcans did not want to tell them either.
Well because it would have placed doubts with the 'Coalition Of Planets' (Remember this was PRE-Federation) since the Vulans and Romulans are close biologically...

There is more to it...In fact the Vulcans went Neutral in 'The War' (Book Wise).
Or better put they would only help with Defensive Tech and not give forces to add to the battles.
I am trying to remember from scratch here so forgive me if I am missing a few things...

when you said you remember from the books what books? was there enterprise books cause I never knew there was any out. going to have to check that out on barnes and noble to see about that. if its these books which one should I read about this war? think I found the book. is this it? Star Trek Enterprise - The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm. or is it this one? Star Trek Enterprise: The Romulan War - Beneath the Raptor's Wing. does it matter which book I should read first or if have to read which one to read first, which one? barnes and noble has them and I want to get one or both.

Yes it does matter which one you read first.

I 'think' Beneath the Raptor's Wing is the first book of those two about the war.
There are a couple after the war as well. Where the Federation is actually started and Archer is the President.
Been a while for me.
Now are the books canon? I do not know but they make for a good read...
I liked how they were not TOS in tech at that point.

I myself read them on my Kindle.

"Enterprise" is an alternate universe, because there are too many noticeable inconsistencies between it and the original series.

As for the original series, it is established there in "Balance of Terror" that humanity and the Romulans fought a war a century earlier, but the two never got a look at each other. Even the Peace Treaty that was later established had been handled over subspace radio, without any visual contact between the two species. "Horizon" gets around that because T'Mar was surgically altered to look human (still not consistent with the episode from the original series that I just referenced because the Romulans shouldn't have known what human beings looked like either), along with using another plot/writing trick to get around it later in the movie also.

However, I don't agree with you. I don't know how you could call it boring given how it starts off.

I think he did a great job for a guy with no budget who mostly had to create all of the special effects sequences himself as well.

any of you heard of a series thats on youtube call star trek continues? its tos one but different people playing the tos series crew. they already did 5 episodes. not sure when any more will come out. but i am impress some of the characters make you feel like they are kirk, spock, bones and scotty. speaking of scotty he is played by james doohan's son. one of the episodes they did is when in original series call mirror mirror shows kirk and landing party leave the other enterprise. in continues, it stays with with alternate enterprise and the other spock did listen to other kirk.

The Enterprise under the command of Capt. Archer did make first contact with the Romulans in Star Trek: Enterprise "Minefield' (season 2, episode 3).
