Discovery - Coincidence or design?

So the new series 'Star Trek Discovery', coming in January 2017, will apparently be set in the "Prime" universe and will be set aboard the starship Discovery.

I wonder if this fan films follow up was advised to halt by CBS because it's setting closely matched the vision the new series wanted to follow?

Having watched the teaser for the new series, the ship has a different designation and is obviously of a different class and is of a newer design, so I suppose it's possible that CBS simply doesn't want any confusion between the two shows and that there will be no similarity other than the name, but I wonder if there's more to it than that?..
