When dumb people think they are smart and clever.

Why yes, Malcolm, they would ask that question if you were white. They ask EVERYONE who applies that question - you are not being singled out.

I noticed a few people on this board said that their theaters cheered when Malcolm asked that ridiculous question. Sad that they put it in the movie. Sadder people ate it up.

They ask EVERYONE who applies that question - you are not being singled out.

You seem to have missed the point of:

1. What Harvard is looking for in answer to this question

2. The way in which the character sought to craft his answer to address the things that Harvard is looking for

3. The reason(s) that his application was (probably) successful

The question on the application does not have a "right" answer.

He demonstrated the ability to show that he valued himself highly, and that he had the aptitude and willingness to work hard to take advantage of the benefits that Harvard has to offer, and the potential to go out into the world, after graduation, as a good example to other people of the benefits that Harvard has to offer.
