Current rating 6.6. Is it really that bad?

I just finished season 1, and so far I'm finding this show enjoyable. Every episode has been entertaining so far. It's different from TWD which I appreciate. And hate to admit this, I think I care more about the characters on Z nation than I did season 1's TWD. The writers did a good job in giving everyone in Z a story and equal lines, the characters are likeable (the only one I don't care for and find a bit annoying is Addy.)

Anyway, I don't want to spoil myself for the upcoming episodes but I do see that the rating is pretty low for a tv show, a 6.6? And so many thread title complains about how the show has gotten really bad in season 3. Is it worth continuing to invest my time in this?

Depends on what you want out of the show I guess.

Without spoilers....

You know how Season 1 starts off trying to feel like a Walking Dead knock off, and then gets... goofy? Seasons 2 and 3 are pretty goofy as well. I say this as a -feature- of the show, because the goofy makes it -fun-.

The main problem I think with Season 3 is that the episodes have too much focus on one or two characters, which kinda creates a sense of them just wandering around. There -is- a plot (or two or three or seven) connecting the stories, but for the most part I think the characters work better together than when the episodes focus on them having solo adventures.

Oh boy, that's where TWD started to lose me when it started doing a lot of character centred episodes and splitting up the group. Z nations is headed that way too?booo urns.

reply

To some extent, yeah.

But the thing about Z Nation is that it never forgets people are watching a "Zombie Show". I don't want to spoil things, so I can't properly compare ZN and TWD, but I'll take Season 3 of ZN over TWD Season 7 (and most of Season 6) any day.

That said, if you make it through Season 2 and think "this is dumb", then Season 3 probably won't be your thing.

Originally I had no interest in watching this show, but out of sheer boredom one night, I put this on, on Netflix. If you don't take it too seriously, you're good. I am a huge fan of The Walking Dead, but I like that this has humor to it. I even enjoy iZombie, which is another fun show. So I am not disappointed in this at all.

It's subjective, but the season 1 was campy horrible. Season 2 and 3 just become completely horrible as the show begins to take its self seriously and the plot devolves.

That score is low, IMO (caveat: I am not caught up on the third season). It's funny, well thought out and well plotted, which as you know is a rarity in the genre, and sometimes surprisingly suspenseful and touching.

I think it turned out to be better than it set out to be. The Asylum was probably just trying to make a fun little show, in their usual goofy fashion, and somehow... it wound up insisting that it would be all that and good, too.

There is no reason this show should be good but it is. Its so fun and lighthearted and a great departure from all the shows that have been coming out lately. So many of the new shows are great but are just way too serious and require too much focus. Z Nation is fun escapism.

ZN isn't all just giggles and goofiness--it can do serious just fine. That's part of why it's such a great show; it's not just hitting the same note over and over again.

It isn't bad. It is funny

ZN is a much better show than TWD. If you loved the 1st season, you'll love the rest of it. Season 2 is arguably even better. Season 3 saw a plot-wrinkle that broke up the characters TWD-style and that drew some grumbles but it was still great. The eps focusing on one or a few characters were a blast.

People need to stop comparing ZN with TWD. Their take on the Zombie Apocolypse is entirely different and ZN should not be taken seriously at all, but you should enjoy the serious side to it.

Come on folks... the Liberty Bell, the giant roll of cheese and George R R Martin all appeared in ZN! Just enjoy it for the tongue in cheek show that it is.
