Continue this community; join Walking Dead & Z Nation group on Facebook

It's going to be hard to lose these boards, of which I've been a part for 14 years now, if that's conceivable. There's no way to replace them but there are various efforts to lessen the blow of their loss, preserve the communities that have grown up here. I launched a Facebook group. Initially aimed at preserving the WALKING DEAD community, I've expanded it to include the Z NATION community as well. Everyone--fans, critics, mutants, everyone--is welcome. Join up here:

Can't believe they're doing this *beep* Do they not realize people will just turn to collating data sources like wikipedia instead now? The forums were one of the last attractive features of IMDB.

What a lovely way to burn...

Yeah, I'm afraid they're going to wake up on the 20th and suddenly discover 99% of their traffic is gone. There's no place like these boards on the internet; they're destroying something really unique and special.

Someone needs to start an IMDb alternative one could basically copy the films listed on imdbs database and open message boards basicly the imdb template and call it the online film database OFDB

Come on someone more tech savy than myselfe can do it

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

reply

There have already been several people do that, or variations on it. I fear those boards aren't long for this world though--they're sure to draw a takedown from IMDb on intellectual property grounds.

So IMDb basically own the monopoly on an internet movie data base

What are these alternative sites you speak of any links

No, but they own the intellectual property on their own database and sites that replicate its entire structure, often down to fairly minute details, are going to run into problems.

This, for example:
http://imdb2.freeforums.net/
It not only replicates the entire mainboard system of IMDb, it does so without changing the names, the order, much of anything.

This one takes it even further:
http://thegotboard.com/
It's made to look just like IMDb.

I'm afraid it's just a matter of time before IMDb sends out the takedown notices for them, which will leave everyone there stranded.

My own Facebook group can't replace IMDb. I'm afraid nothing will ever be able to do that. I just thought I'd invite folks there, rather than seeing these communities entirely die or go somewhere with an unsure future.

There are other places as well. The IMDb Horror community has been going here:

And here:
http://www.thehorrorboard.com/index.php
And there are others.

The IMDb Walking Dead board is going here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/426197277711671/
(That one may be extended to the Walking Dead and Z Nation board)

And so on.

And, in fact, it now is. Sign up, folks--the clock is ticking.
