trashy, tawdry, goofy fun

A movie like this is only likely to come from Korea nowadays - or possibly Brian DePalma. The absurdly simplistic presentation of a transgender lead is rendered campy by virtue of it's implicitly ridiculous notions of masculinity and femininity. I love when the doctor warns him the hormones won't take effect if he brawls, cusses and otherwise acts like a man. The idea that his pinky finger sticks up when he drinks is proof of a feminine soul - the whole presentation is preposterous. But totally earnest.

And at the heart of it, a crime story featuring a gangster who's doom is to be in love with this man without understanding it. It's tabloid headline stuff.

Very entertaining though. I sense a cult classic in the making.
