Wait... No gore?

I heard this has some blood, but no actual gore (just blood without any fx isn't gore). Is that true?

CG gore is the worst thing that has ever happened to the horror genre.

reply

Mostly, yes :(

That sucks. It's the kind of movie that should have tons of great gore fx. Still gonna watch it though.

That's my biggest gripe with this movie. Was deeply disappointed by the lack of real gore. Maybe that's because it was the truncated R rated version. Who knows if the unrated cut has tons of actual gore shots in it?

I don't think that's the case. Every scene was shot terribly, especially the scenes involving action. So having it shot that way hid most of the violence right off the bat. Different angles as well as having the violence in immense closeup, so that particular makeup could have been applied to anything. No need for quality practical effects when your camera work is shyte.

The worst offender here: 'fight' scene between the 60 year old little girl and Pepper. Her knife cam out of nowhere, was he being stabbed? He spat out blood, he must have. Oh wait, he's up and about moments later, like nothing occurred.
Charly grabs her by the neck in a head lock, yet when she slits her throat the prosthetic is completely covered by a chain that was being worn the other way around to begin with. It's not about the budget, a lot of no-budget local stuff had much better talent all around.

This was shortcut after shortcut.

They had to cut a lot out to get it from an X rating to an R rating. Just WAIT for the DVD.

By the way, I am right behind you.

You are right behind me? OMG!

I just watched it. Wish I'd waited for the DVD/Blu-ray. It was good for what it was but now I can't wait to see the unrated version.

reply

Yes, this! Thank you, finally someone who gets it lol.
Still I will be interested to see the uncut version, I don't need tons more gore or violence, but I would love some more background on the carnies past and the clowns,etc..

There's few gore. Head get smashed by nails baseball bat and a machete lopped a man's head off. Others are off screen kills and shaky camera confusing us. Couple of full naked and topless girls.

reply

Hmmm... I didn't see a head get 'smashed' or anyone's head cut off by a machete.
I saw some run of the mill stabbing, some beating... beheading by chainsaw that wasn't particularly well done or interesting.
For the most part the clowns were all talk... for all the threats of sexual violence and horrible tortures they mostly just stab people, and the camera cuts away from most of that.

reply

Oh that head smash.... With 100% of the blood exploding from his forehead, and not his actual wound. Good times.

that's what I don't understand. i watch his terribly written and acted movies for gore lol

also, there was clearly visible shaven labia but they cut gore. it's like bizarro Murica all of a sudden.
