How did people not like this movie?

The criticism of this movie mostly comes off as people not liking the movie because due to one major reason the casting / character design. Although I can understand some peoples disliking Rob Zombie for putting his wife in his movies the other actors did a pretty decent job for the concept of the movie which was just a horror movie not a drama or anything that calls for emotion outside of being scared.

In a time where most horror movies are jump scares torture porn it's nice to see that there's a director that's willing to go back to 70's / 80's horror ideas and bring back a slasher type movie. In my opinion the characters were interesting enough for a first installment of a franchise type movie. The Nazi midget. The weird European tall guy and his sex friend were interesting character types. Sure the brothers with the CHainsaws were kind of lame but the last "Head" was a very interesting character.

reply

There were so many things wrong with this movie I can't even list them all.

Why did the Nazi midget speak Spanish?

reply

because its funny you do understand you arent meant to take this film thats serious its a on the nose over the top violent movie your supposed to laugh at the clown midget the fact you diddnt tells me you dont even get the movie

reply

The fact that you did tells me that it doesn't be take much to make you laugh. A Nazi that speaks Spanish is not exactly a complex joke. Someone not laughing at it doesn't mean they didn't get the joke.

reply

as for me getting it i got it because i have seen a million movies of all different styles i study film this particular movie isnt great it isnt bad either its a all right standered horror exploitation film with goofy clown performances rather you enjoy this movie or not will determine if you like exploitation horror an find the clowns entertaining this is rob zombie doing his exploitation style again he did this same style with house of 1000 corpses

reply

Maybe study punctuation. You don't need to have seen a million movies or "study film" to get Rob Zombie's 31. I didn't dislike it because it's an attempt at the exploitation style. I disliked it because it seems like it was written by a child.

reply

you obviously diddnt get it because you diddnt even understand the humor its supposed to be over the top an stupid obviously you yourself need to study film or exploitation films cause you are totally lost its ok though i dont think your stupid you just dont understand film no shame in that

reply

I don't care if you think I'm stupid. You're a stranger.

I got that it's over the top. Still a terrible movie.

reply

i dont think your stupid you just dont get films like these theres nothing wrong with that i dont even like the film that much but i know what its supposed to be an understand it your not stupid for not understand film or this type

reply

Can we agree that you insulting people about intelligence while showing a complete lack of it in your responses and writing is pretty ironic? There's literally no single person who is going to believe you study film based on your inability to put together a sentence. 31 was trash, imo, and a lot of people clearly disliked it.

reply

can we agree nothing you say means anything to me can we agree i only respond insultingly when i read stupid crap from posters who have no idea about what there talking about as for making my typing actually im doing it on purpose for fun because it gives me a laugh just like your post

reply

So you've officially come out as a troll. At least you can admit it. That's the first step to getting help.

reply

if laughing at people talking about stuff an complaining about stuff they dont really understand if that makes me a troll then yes also thanks for the laugh

reply

I'll tell you what: I'll go study film for a few years, then I'll rewatch 31 and hopefully I can truly understand what Rob Zombie was trying to do. (Because watching movies like Texas Chainsaw and The Evil Dead countless times doesn't amount to anything)

reply

actually watching those movies is good because they are good horror films but if you want to learn about exploitation horror go watch some silly over the top 7os exploitation horror just look up a list an watch a bunch of them an then you will prolly get the style also throw in some troma horror films while your at it since there similar

reply

All I watch is exploitation movies and horror movies. Tromeo & Juliet is one of my favorite movies. It was a lot more creative than 31. If that was the give 31 was going for, it failed.

reply

thats fine you dont have to like 31 no body dose its not a great movie it isnt bad either its just all right which is fine for a simple plot of killer clowns which is a typical horror plot

reply

I think it's a really really bad movie. According to you, if I watched more movies I would think it is a better movie. Your argument is stupid. You are stupid.

reply

i never said you would think it was a better movie i said you would be able to judge it fair if you understood what its actually supposed to be the way your judgeing it would be like if i watch the mask not understanding its a comedy an judge it for being to over the top

reply

It's not a comedy. It's a horror movie.

reply

hahahahhahah thats a good one

reply

Even if it has comedic elements, this is still a horror movie.

reply

o i thought you were talking about the mask

reply

You mean the 1961 3D movie?

reply

Not a single comma in that post, mate lol.
I know you can't see it but you are embarrassing yourself, I promise.

reply

Nope. You're illiterate. Bottom line.

reply

LOL Telling people they didn't get it because they didn't like it.....Stop embarrassing yourself, kid.
Just because you study film does not mean your opinion is more valid than everyone else's.
The vast majority of viewers could recognize this film for the piece of sh!t it is.

reply

you dont even get the movie

With all those metaphors and symbolism, I needed to dig out my old philosophy books in order to simply comprehend the first 10 minutes!!!

We've met before, haven't we?

reply

I knew before hand that it was going to be similar to House of 1,000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects. For some reason there were people that went in thinking it was going to a Citizen fvcking Kane type masterpiece and they came out disappointed....deservedly so

reply

Absolutely nobody went into this movie expecting Citizen Kane.

reply

lol

reply

No one was expecting Citizen Kane, you freaking idiot! lol
That was the dumbest thing I've read in weeks.
Oh we can certainly now see what kind of retards liked 31 LOL.

reply

Yeah apparently it's the audiences fault that the movie stinks. That's some impressive logic to get to right there. What a lame excuse. It's much more likely that person likes a bad movie than 99% of the audience didn't get it or expected something more.

reply

Well, for one it was complete *beep* And two, Zombie totally ripped the idea off from Marvel, like the hack that his is.

reply

actually this idea wasnt ripped from marvel your retarded lol it was clearly a horror film parody of hunger games complets with even the powder wig wearing people from it thats clearly what he was inspired by

reply

I'd say I feel bad about making you look like an idiot. But, I don't :http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Why-Marvel-May-Pissed-About-Rob-Zombie-Horror-Movie-68001.html

reply

i say im sorry for making you look like an idiot but a random guy on the internet saying rob zombies movie rips of marvel dosent make it so you mcu retard its obviously inspired by the huger games this same plot was done years before that comic was ever written you moron this same plot has been done a million times the reason we know this particular version is based from the hunger games is because the company lions gate turned him down for some of his movies an they release hunger games an those movies are whats keeping this plot in the public eye right now rob zombie is a movie fan he has seen the hunger games knows there popular an copied the same look an has released movies from the same company my gosh are all mcu fanboys nut jobs who think everything is from mcu because of one similar idea invented decades before the comic was written its like hello hello

reply

Well hey. If you can't admit when you're wrong. I'll do it for you. You're wrong. I bet that felt incredibly liberating. You're welcome. PS - You hurl insults like a 9 year old.

reply

why hey if you cant admit just because someone says something is true it isnt then your smoking to much weed

reply

I had a brain aneurysm trying to get through that sentence. Did you drop out after grade 4?

reply

Give me some sugar baby

reply

fvckin nonsensical board personality. we need to call the admin to shoot you or otherwise shut you down.
HAIL HIT1ER!

reply

Yeah....no. This film was way more influenced by/ripping off The Running Man and The Most Dangerous Game. It had very little in common with The Hunger Games. For someone who supposedly is THE expert on film, I'm shocked you couldn't make those associations. And please learn how to actually type reasonable English. Punctuation and capital letters are your friends. Learn to let them into your life and online ramblings.

And regardless of what 'inspired' this film, it is by far the weakest Zombie has put out. It had zero originality or decent characters and unlike House of 1000 Corpses or Devil's Rejects, 31 was just full of violence for violence's sake, nothing more. Those films at least had cohesive plots and were solid homages to 70s exploitation film making. This was nothing but a gorefest, showing Zombie appears to be out of any original ideas but has a full stock of fake blood.

reply

Someone who doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're" calling someone retarded.......... \m/

reply

because the protagonists were unlikable, the antagonists not scary, camera work unfocussed, and whenever something supposedly disturbing happend it was accompanied by loud sound effects to constantly remind you it's not real but only a cheesy horror movie.

reply

this movie wasnt trying to scare just entertain my gosh is there any one on here that even understands what this film was really about an trying to do

reply

Apparently it was trying to be a spoof of The Hunger Games, according to you.

reply

actually you are correct

reply

I am correct that you think it's a spoof of The Hunger Games.

reply

its not a spoof its inspired by thats the difference again you need to understand different styles better

reply

Thank you for the advice, oh cinematic master.

reply

"my gosh is there any one on here that even understands"

No, apparently not. Nobody else is smart enough to have the deep insight and keen understanding of Zombie's vision.

Maybe if you slam out 500 more incoherent, misspelled, grammatically retarded rebuttals about how the bad movie was meant to be bad, someone will eventually recognize that you are the epitome of the greatest of film reviewers and accept that this film is the Gone With the Wind of bad movies.

reply

What's everyone so angry about?

I'm a Zombie fan, and I had a lot of fun with 31.

THE NIGHTTHING THEATRE: Thrillers, Chillers, Shockers & Schlockers

reply

Because someone basically came out and said 'anyone who doesn't like it isn't smart' in a horribly written blanket statement, that is at the same time insulting and condescending. They say the ONLY way someone could dislike this garbage is if they didn't 'get it', as if there's something deep or profound about Rob Zombie's 31. The OP is being rightfully torn apart for even suggesting something so ludicrous, and now they're having to constantly defend themselves and back pedal in order to substantiate such a claim.

reply

It was pretty good. Interesting characters. Neat bad guys. Decent gore. I guess people expected too much from it or something. Don't know. For me it delivered what I expected from a rob zombie film.

reply

How did i not like this movie?

I sort of made a face like this 😒 followed by this 😞

WHY i didn't like this is simple, it sucked.

reply

It was the worst thing I've ever seen. If you're a fan of horror you could totally see all the ideas he stole from stuff. I'm giving up on rob zombie. He's like a fan of cool movies and throws them all together to make a mega movie but it always flops. I liked 1000/devils rejects though

reply

I didn't necessarily dislike the movie. I was just extremely disappointed for a lot of reasons. I was really excited when I heard what it was going to be about. A group of people are kidnapped the day before Halloween and are hunted by a bunch of crazy clowns. That sounds like the perfect movie for Rob Zombie to make. I am a huge fan of his first two movies and I was really excited to see him make another movie like that. But it turned out nothing like I was imagining it.

First of all I was expecting all the victims and all the clowns to be roaming around free at the same time. It was ridiculous that they sent the clowns in one or two at a time just to get killed off almost immediately. They should've had more than five people for the clowns to kill. That way you don't have to kill the main characters or the clowns as fast.

I was expecting Father murder and those two women to have more of an impact or a purpose. I feel like they were wasted. They didn't even need that much more screen time. I was just expecting to see a few scenes of them scattered throughout the movie. Like after every death it cuts back to them for a minute changing their bets and stuff. To make it feel like they were really the ones playing the game.

I was also expecting it to have more of a Halloween look and feel to it. Rob Zombie seemed to emphasize the fact that it took place on Halloween and I was really looking forward to that. Aside from him telling you the date the movie takes place, You never would know it's Halloween. It reminds me of one of those *beep* generic looking Saw movies. I imagined it to take place in and abandoned amusement park or something like that.

Also the ending was weak. I was hoping it ended the way it did with the clowns running out of time and the surviving girl getting to just walk away. I was just imagining it to be way better. I thought Sheri Moon Zombie would somehow escape and is almost out of Murder World. Then Suddenly one of the clowns walks out in front of her, so she turns around to run back and two more clowns come out. Then she is trapped, the clowns start closing in on her and just as they are about to kill her they run out of time, start laughing, drop their weapons and walk away like it was all just a game to them.

Rob Zombie had the opportunity to make a really great 70's style Halloween horror movie and I felt like it was just wasted. And he could've easily fixed it with the minor changed I suggested.
