Somehow ran into the trailer on this ...

why would they put an outpost in the middle of a valley where snipers and artillery can fire down on them? That did not make much sense. I thought in a fight you are supposed to go for the high ground?

This movie shows that the US Army is run by a bunch of dumbasses. Definently not the smartest army in the history of the world.

I believe the intent of this movie is to tell us a story where the army made one of the several mistakes all military forces make. At the very end during the credits they say something about the army shutting down all outposts that were "obviously indefensible".

Pretty good movie, though, imo.
