Original or New?

So I've wanted to see Cabin Fever forever but never got around to it. I saw that it was available on Hulu and decided to give it a go.

I actually only realised I was watching the remake when I came on the boards to see if one of the main guys was actually Matthew Daddario like I thought. I honestly had no idea that it had even been remade.

So, is the original worth watching? Because at the time that it came out I remember it being a big thing but people don't seem to think the remake is that good. Opinions?

I guess it all depends on if you like not only horror movies, but comedic horror movies.
The original is more comedy than horror at times. It definitely isn't a horror movie that has any real scares in it. More of a "how does a back country town and/or a group of partying college kids deal when faced with a quick acting, fatal flesh eating bacteria. So, I guess, horror wise, it's more of an edge-of-your-seat kind of thing than big scares. Being scared @#&*less is why I watch horror movies (which is hard to scare me now-a-days), but, I did/do enjoy the original and watch it once a year or so (yes, I own it, I'll happily admit)

I don't know if you were able to even see some of the comedic libes in this reshoot (I refuse to call it a remake as those are usually a re-imagining, not a shot-by-shot, scene-by-scene, almost exact bland attempted replica), especially when they were not only poorly delivered, emotionally and time wise, but also didn't get the right reaction by other characters.
You really need to see the original just to see how those lines/scenes should have been acted out.

Plus, watching anybody but Giuseppe Andrews play Deputy Winston should be a crime. He can change your whole perception of the movie on his own. Definitely worth watching just for that.

The original also has this ridiculously funny store owner in the beginning of the movie that, with a little twist on his character at the end is just so ... well, you have to see it to understand.
At first you are just saying to yourself "OMG, how did that make the movie" and by the credits you are laughing your pants filler off.

Don't watch it thinking the comedy is like horror satire movies that make fun of the genre, because it's not that kind of horror/comedy. So don't worry if that's not your thing. But, if you enjoy horror movies and need a good laugh, or, if you want to see how this movie should have been filmed/delivered/acted, etc, most definitely watch it.

I'm being extremely clever...no1 around looking impressed! What's the point in having you all? DrWho

The original is much better than the remake. And I'm not saying that simply because I'm one of those guys who always thinks the original is better. Just in this case, it is the truth.

I think the personalities and motives of the actors in the original come across better than the actors in the remake. It almost seems like they didn't even try casting the parts in the remake, they just grabbed some people off the street.

In the original, the actor who played Bert really comes across as a goofy, dorky kind of guy. The guy in the remake just seems to be reading the lines.

Also, the fact that Paul is absolutely in love with Karen comes across from the beginning in the original. In the remake, although I have the first movie memorized, I didn't even notice that Paul in any way seemed to care about Karen.

So yes, watch the original. It's a REALLY better movie.

The first was an homage to the horror comedies of the past. The remake was just a confused attempt to play off the original. And it did it very poorly!

Plus, Eli Roth playing Grim was sooooo much funnier than the idiot who played him in the remake.
