I LOVE the original, but......

I thought this did a couple things better.

1. The score was definitely more mood setting.

2. Karens death was much more powerful. Loved seeing Jeff in so much angst having to kill her. Poorly I might add lol

I thought the score for this was pretty try-hard, you could hear The Shining influences

Also hated Karen's death. Makes zero sense

As for what this did better, making the Paul/Karen scene consensual is literally the only thing to come to mind

What exactly made zero sense about it?

It's meant a mercy kill. Put her out of her misery painlessly. Instead he pours gasoline over her peeling flesh, extremely painful, and lights her on fire, one of THE most painful ways to die. It's stupid and makes zero sense. Especially when there's a bunch of other ways to kill her (smash her face in with the shovel, shoot her, etc)

Guess you didn't notice him try to shoot her then kill her withe shovel? Can't blame the guy for messing up with the shovel. I assume he's never killed anyone, especially someone he loves. Seems plausible he wouldn't be great at it.

And the score sounding "try hard?" If you were making a movie wouldn't you try hard? You're Probably above trying hard huh?

reply

So you give up and dump gasoline on her and ought her on fire? What sense does that even begin to make? Obviously I saw the scene. Him giving up after gun and shovel issues once is idiotic. And resorting to gasoline as a mercy kill is something a deranged psycho would try. She's better off rotting there

"Try hard" means it thinks it's way better than it actually is, thus the Shining comparison. Basically, they shot for the stars and completely and utterly missed.

You really think they were "shooting for the stars" with this VoD release?

I don't care that you didn't enjoy the movie. Overall I didn't either. But what I can't stand is your type that obviously compares all movies on a level playing field. You gotta temper your expectations. What did you expect?

reply

The score was blatantly influenced by Shining. Don't want comparisons? Don't try to copy a masterpiece. So yeah, I guess "shooting for the stars" and "try hard" are the wrong terms. Lazy failure is more fitting.

A soulless cash-in with minimal effort that was completely lacking in redemptive qualities.... So exactly what I got? I can be lenient when I want to, but there has to be actual effort involved

And for the record, I liked the original too

Is it a bad thing to be influenced by the music from The Shining? I mean you're trying to bash the movie but comparing it's music to a pretty amazingly scored film is quite the compliment.

reply

I wouldn't set her on fire either, but just because it doesn't make sense to us doesn't mean that someone else wouldn't react this way. When you're in such a *beep* up situation, you don't think clearly anymore. Oh and this better than all previous Cabin Fever movies...don't understand the hate. The score was very good and most scenes very intense. The original was not as effective. The screams of that girl burning were very haunting. Good job to Eli and the director.

LOLOL: Him giving up after gun and shovel issues once is idiotic. And resorting to gasoline as a mercy kill is something a deranged psycho would try.... that made my day!

If life gives you MELONS, then you probably have DYSLEXIA.

the original was consensual

This one got much better cinematography, shooting location, camera work, sound, music score and editing however it carried over everything that sucked about the original with very few alterations... The film remains scene for scene, word for word identical to the original in ways i have never seen before in remakes.

So if you have never seen the original you may enjoy it better otherwise it is a disaster.
