Helena Dove

How did she know Helena Dove's name?
Did I miss it or is it a loose end?

reply

Picture from the bar, the bartender thought she went to LA and never came back

reply

also as a cop I would wonder why a woman's handwriting was on the back of a snuff photo. I get why she did it, but if she doesn't want to be found...

WoW! You can tell a person's gender by their handwriting? Printing even?

I highly doubt the investigators would be concerned with who wrote the name- they have the girl's killer so... 

handwriting experts can.

reply

No, sorry they can not.

All humans have both masculine & feminine traits and while an "expert" may make an educated guess, it's still a guess.

First, why did you ask the question in the first place then. Second, handwriting experts are just that - they are experts in the field of analyzing handwriting - they are even used in the court of law. They may not always be 100% perfect, just like any expert in any field, but they still have the training and experience to analyze the handwriting. And for another matter, I'm not even a handwriting expert but I could tell that the writing on the back of the picture was done by a female. Yes, it would be just a guess - but often times you can tell if a handwriting is done from a male vs. female. But ultimately those assessments are left up to the handwriting experts.

reply

You're correct. You cannot tell the handwriting of a male vs female. I used to work at the crime lab in my state and that was one of the many questions asked by police personnel during their investigation.

reply

Even if they could, with no reason to compare her handwriting, she'd be safe.

reply

Who was Helena? One of the victims in the drain?

reply

Yes. She was a friend of the bartender and when she went to get her car, the bartender told her the story of how her friend left to go to LA but hasn't been heard from since.
I suspect she knew something bad happened to her friend.

You can call me 'Mayor Chapstick.'

reply

Thanks for not responding with, "duh, she was...didn't you watch the movie?"

I must not have been paying attention to their conversation because I watched the scene when Tess talked to Betsy. But my phone did ring...LOL

reply

Yes. She's one of the three in the drain. When she enters the bar to retrieve her keys she comments in the photos of bands who've played st the Stagger Inn. One is of her. The barkeep mentions her name and how she left to LA without ever coming back.

reply

Nope. Handwriting analysts match patterns together with various understanding and mechanisms used to compare samples. However, psychology tells us that handwriting is not chromosomal. You cannot tell if the handwriting was done by a person with either an X or Y chromosome. Maybe technology can change this in the future. But presently, it is all guesswork when it comes to looking at someone's handwriting and immediately discover whether a female or male wrote it.

Helena Dove's picture was hanging in the bar that was run by Joan Jett. Joan commented that Helena had moved out west. Seems like she had performed at the bar at some point. Hope that helps. :)
