Unfortunately, my viewing of this movie was interrupted twice. I missed the first few minutes, so I don't know how Ruth, Jonas, and the van came together. Also, what illness did Jonas have, and what was the prognosis? Sorry--I realize these are very basic plot questions. I saw most of the movie, but missed these key points. Thanks for your help. 1) Ruth is being expropriated from her home, and Jonas is hired to help her pack and move. The van belongs to Jonas.
2) Jonas has multiple sclerosis, passed down from his mother I believe. We don't know his prognosis, but he claims that he knows what's coming for him later in life.

I agreed that this was a beautiful film, but that the scenes with the Nazis were grim. What I didn't know when I wrote to you the first time is that the film has a 5.8 rating! Why?
