Let's have some fun. Is there any chance at all that Louis XIV is a descendent of Alfred the Great???? Instead of playing 6° of Kevin Bacon, can we play 12 generations of Athelstan? That would make some fun conversations. Louie just happens to look like his great great great etc. grandfather.

shareNot only a chance, but I would guess it highly likely, even if I didn't know. I think most English, French royals especially have many common ancestors.
We can look at his ancestry to make the list, but considering the much smaller population in general, then the habit of keeping marriages within royal lines, it seems unnecessary.
I'll see if I can find a site with that specific list ready made. Creating one would take more effort than its likely worth,but I may try, out of curiosity and love of the subject.

Just for the sheer amusement factor, we should lobby the writer/producers to put in a little scene where he finds a drawing of his ancestor, Athelstan, and have someone comment on how he looks just like him!
Unfortunately, Athelstan doesn't figure in the genealogy. There were two Athelstans, a brother of Alfred and a grandson of Alfred, but neither had descendants. Alfred's father was named Aethelwulf.
