The Writing --- The Ending (Obviously spoilers)

The writer of this, wrote The Hunt. Which, despite some ambiguity, nails the final two or three scenes and leaves us with goosebumps and a somewhat dirty feeling. Knowing he wrote this and seeing how the movie plodded along, I knew what was coming. And then it disappeared. But the child's feet were so important, such a visual stomach punch, we couldn't forget them. Yet, during an entire court case, not once did they say why they were there, why they were ambushed or anything else. It destroyed the movie's credibility and with the thought of those feet stuck in our head we waited. Did the writer/director think we'd let it pass? Then when we see them at the end, we tallied up his total civilian kills and we see him sitting. A strong beginning, going back and forth between the struggles of war and the struggles of everyday life (and cleverly not putting more importance on one or the other) and then pretty much nothing to make us feel for the characters in the last 40 minutes. An oddly written story, which left not room for error to work and in the end, didn't really.
