What the hell was Shane Black's original vision supposed to be?

I cannot tell what's his or the studio.

I just HAVE to believe that his vision was better than this. You watch his movies and you kinda know they're his, I didn't see that here.

I was thinking the same thing as the movie progressed. I can't imagine he put this together and thought it was good product.

For god's sake, this movie is set on Halloween, how a studio can show a director more the finger to a director?

reply

Ask Josh Trank or Zack Snyder.

reply

Josh Trank did the maximum possible to get kicked out of his own project and Warner was just massively disappointed by Snyders Performance and were most happy to get him out of the contract. But yes, this was then really bad decision after another.

Shane Blacks entire process was a complete mess. He probably had studio interference but he messed this film up himself.
He shot once sequence and reshot it later with another crew. Endless script changes and reshoots. Escalating budget and delays. Re casting , change in sets, rebuilding set, another crew. Change day to night and reshot that, costume changes, predator amendments, another change in crew.

Its very strange that Twentieth Century Fox did not take this away from him sooner.

I just watched the first one and his sense of humor is all over it (I don't know if he punched up the comedy on the script). Maybe he wanted a spoof of the genre?

reply

Who on earth would want that?

reply

People who liked The Expendables?

reply

Hey at least those made it clear they're not to be taken seriously.
