Pinochet dictatorship

I just saw this short about an hour ago. I noticed that it's a Chilean production. Am I right in saying that this story is actually about the Pinochet dictatorship? The part of people being taken in the middle of the night to be sent to prison camps remindse of what I've read about what happened in chile in the 70s. Also, the bear is seek several times behind bars which is what of course happens in prisons. Finally, when he returns home, his house is completely destroyed with furniture thrown everywhere. All of this is what happened during pinochet's reign of terror.

I don't know the filmmakers, but as someone born and raised in Chile under Pinochet, I totally agree with your view.
The atmosphere reminds me of my own childhood.

When accepting the award, the makers mentioned the Dictatorship. It's also been mentioned in all the news that have covered the short. I don't think I would've noticed.

Yes. Wikipedia says that the filmmaker's grandfather was imprisoned by Pinochet for two years: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_Story

It is definitely influenced by the Pinochet dictatorship but these things happen all the time and all over the world. And that, among others, make this movie so universal.
