I mean considering how abysmal the second movie was, I expected way worse. I mean it's not the most interesting thing I've seen in terms of characters and plot, but it is so well made. Look at the sets, the clothes, the quality of special effects, the decent enough acting. Even the dragon looks pretty good when we first see it stretch its wings. Looked a little bit crappy when it had a heart, but eh, gotta give them credit that you can tell people actually put effort into this.
It may not be the most interesting of scripts, but it just happens to be better written than a lot of block busters raking in the cash at the box office these days. How fun to see some enthusiasm and effort put in the damndest of places!

As it turns out, this film happened because of dedicated fans over at Universal who wanted to do the series some justice after the poorly recieved "A New Beginning". The film made enough money and got good enough reviews to gain a significant budget increase for the fourth film.

I too was quite impressed with how much of an improvement it was over the second film. Not quite as good as the first, and you can see the editing and acting is a bit amateur, but hopefully this will mean better effort will be put into the upcoming fourth movie, and I'm quite looking forward to that.
