So WKW won't be directing?

I remember reading that WKW will be directing this but now apparently it's the original author who will? Anybody know if there's a reason to this?

No he's not directing, because he saw it better directed by a younger director in his thirties. "This story is very influential, its director must be able to achieve five points, including that it must be like hot pot casserole, must be able to drink, must have a post 80 nostalgia, sounds like Wong Kar Wai but actually is Stephen Chow, and have the attention of a lot of women. Thus Zhang Jiajia is the most suitable.” Wong Kar-wai said in a press conference. Moreover, Zhang Jiajia is emotionally attached to the story. Wong only remains attached to the project as a producer.

By the way, he's now going to direct Blossoms (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3881914).

The premisse of 'Blossoms' as listed on imdb sounds like it could really become something in the hands of Wong.

I've always been a bigger fan of his romantic work than his crime/ kung fu/ swordfighting work. Well, Ashes of Time Redux is a masterpiece, Fallen Angels is great and The Grandmaster is, like most of his films, candy to the eye. But for me, Wong's unique style is best served when he does stuff like Chungking Express and In The Mood for Love.

It's probably going to take at least four years before he completes it, though. The man takes his time.

WKW did actually direct "Ferryman", even though Jiajia Zhang was almost permanently on the set. WKW and JJZ are good friends and would closely work together on this one. Still, the actor direction is WKW's.
