gritty and raw? not even close to Skid Row!

don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the filmmaking talent these people have but on some levels I'm probably just that heartless in terms of the accolades thrown at this movie that's way over-hyped.

for anybody who lives in LA, the two working girls having a home to return to is extremely posh compared to the tent city on Skid Row and other parts of DTLA.

you can recognize the shooting locations as being in Hollywood and WeHo and that kind of diminishes the "edginess" of the hype of LA's "mean streets" since that area is sort of hipsterish and gentrified.

I guess there is that large of a disconnect between "regular suburbia" and "true American poverty" that somebody needs to go make a documentary about Skid Row for. but then, it'd be exploitation of the poor for "poverty porn"

Uh, remind me when we see these working girls return to their "extremely posh" homes?

reply

The OP does not say that the girls had extremely posh homes, but that them having homes at all was extremely posh.

In truth, though, we do not see their home(s) at all, so god knows where and how they lived. They were probably better off than the poor blonde girl who ended up literally on the street, but that does not say much.

there's a highway that is curling up like smoke above her shoulder

The film is literally set in West Hollywood. They weren't try to pull the wool over your eyes.

what are you going on about? Why is this an issue to you?
