Boring. Miserable, Improvised Piece of Junk. Wasted $6.99 Renting This

The dialogue is so empty it almost entirely comes across improvised.
Considering the cast, I expected a real movie, not this "home movie"
or whatever you want to call it.
Truly worthless.

This is actually the most professional-looking film the director has made. If you want to see a home movie, watch the four features he made before this one.

There are low budget independent filmmakers who actually know how to make movies that are genuinely good and an audience can enjoy.
The first Cohen Brothers movie Blood Simple, or the more recent You're Next or Blue Ruin are those kind of movies.
But this Mumblecore dreck, movies with little or no real content, are just a waste of everyone's time and money.
The director would do everyone a favor if he did something else for a living.
I've seen 1980's or 90's Vivid porn movies that are better made.

@synthgod2 Super Agree in everything.
Utterly useless, pointless, hollow, bad made, bad script, bad dialogues........

btw...Guy Pierce wtf man?

reply

I agree this looks better than his earlier works. But I found a few of his earlier films "Funny Ha Ha" and "Mutual Appreciation" kind of entertaining. But this and "Beeswax" just bored the hell out of me.

Saw it on Netflix tonight and enjoyed it somewhat, but that was because I clicked it thinking it was a TV series and left it on whilst I did some work not noticing until the credits scrolled by that it was actually a film.

Now I'm not sure what to think, feel like I've watched a pilot, just a really long one. It's okay, nice to have on in the background, think that's about it, nothing more.

My heart bleeds for you. 

Isn't that the point of mumblecore? Admittedly, if I saw this when I was a kid, I likely would have found it boring, but as I aged, I developed a fondness for Wes Anderson, which led me to liking Noah Baumbach, the Duplass brothers, and every other mumblecore filmmaker. The movies are just so much more real (for lack of a better word), and they really entirely on clever banter between characters. My latest discovery is Onur Tukel, although I suppose I can't recommend his movies to anyone who hates Andrew Bujalski's work. Maybe in a few years, watch this movie again and see what ya think :)
