dreadful - no personality

Aaliyah was clearly given no life in this movie. Absolutely a one-dimension portrayal by Alexandra Shipp. And she was supposed to portray a 15 year old? Sorry I was not convinced. This film made her out to be some sort of fame zombie. Where is the struggle? Her life was short but this movie is even shorter. I do not know much about Aaliyah, but I know that she was never this bland. I don't think I learned much about her at all from this film, which was its purpose, I guess. I don't see any strong narrative that is evident in other, good biopics.

This biopic wasn't authorized so they weren't able to even get rights to use her music and her family had no part so it was literally a movie made by just what was already public record. That's why we didn't learn anything from it. It literally was a movie based off of headlines, as are most unauthorized biopics. It's really sad and they definitely did NOT do her justice and I agree , the actress playing her made her seem very bland when she was the complete opposite in person.
