Why is this in black and white?

I guess they just wanted to do something different. Personally I don't care for the B&W.

Me neither.

It's a comedian on stage. Black and white completely takes me out of the experience.

Yeah to me it doesn't add anything, though some could argue maybe it sets a mood. I think Bill Hicks had a special or two in black and white and I've seen a few others for comedians I can't think of right now. But it happens so infrequently that it's just distracting when it does.

I didn't care for it at first, but once he got going I was over it.

Yeah, didn't like it either. Thought it was a weird choice on his part. Didn't take a lot away from it or anything, just an unnecessary distraction.

Bill has joked in interviews that the reason he chose to do the special in black and white is because he doesn't like HD television. He thinks HD is too perfect and doesn't like being able to see peoples pores, so he did his special in black and white as a middle finger to HD.
