Crap story just like all the other games in the 'Souls' franchise

The main sell of these games are the difficulty and the sense of self-gratification defeating it. If anyone's expecting that this time there is a better story driving it to justify the headache of beating it and planning on getting the game, forget it. Nothing's changed at that department.

Here's the plot summary from Wiki, nothing to shout about.
The game takes place in a decrepit Gothic city called Yharnam, which is known for its medical advances using blood as their primary tool. Over the years, many travelers journey to the city seeking the remedy to cure their afflictions; the player takes the journeys to Yharnam seeking a powerful blood known as Paleblood for reasons unknown. Upon arriving in the city, however, it is discovered that the city is plagued with an endemic illness that has transformed most of its citizens into bestial creatures. The player must navigate the streets of Yharnam and overcome its violently deranged inhabitants and horrifying monsters in order to survive.

Shortly after their arrival in Yharnam, the player encounters a spectral realm called the Hunter's Dream, which acts as both a sanctuary and workshop. The player encounters two entities: Gehrman, an elderly, wheelchair-bound man who provides advice to Hunters like the player, and the Doll, a living life-size doll that assists the player in leveling up. Gehrman informs the player that in order to obtain the blood they seek, they must hunt down the various monsters plaguing Yharnam. As the player delves deeper into the city, they begin to learn its dark secrets, as well as the origin of the plague that's destroying it. Long ago, the residents of Yharnam began worshiping ancient, eldritch beings called Great Ones. The Great Ones provided the miracle remedies Yharnam was famous for, which are also the source of the plague. The plague was spread in Yharnam by the Great Ones in order to foster the growth of an infant Great One called the Moon Presence.

Eventually, the player succeeds in obtaining the remedy. Gehrman offers to free the player from the Nightmare and return them to the Waking World. At this point, three different endings are possible depending on the player's actions.

Choosing to accept Gehrman's offer unlocks the Yharnam Sunrise ending. Gehrman uses his scythe to behead the player, who then awakens in the real Yharnam as the sun rises. In the Hunter's Dream, the Doll bids the player farewell.

Choosing to refuse Gehrman's offer unlocks the Honoring Wishes ending. Angered, Gehrman initiates a battle with the player. After Gehrman is defeated, the Moon Presence arrives and embraces the player, binding him to the dream. Some time later, the Doll is seen pushing the player, now sitting in Gehrman's wheelchair, back to the mansion in the Hunter's Dream. The Doll remarks that a new Hunt will begin, signifying that the player has taken Gehrman's place in guiding other Hunters.

If the player consumes three pieces of an Umbilical Cord and refuses Gehrman's offer, the Childhood's Beginning ending is unlocked. After Gehrman is defeated, the Moon Presence arrives to devour the player, but the player resists. The Moon Presence then initiates a battle against the player. Upon defeating the Moon Presence, the player is transformed into an infant Great One, destined to replace the Moon Presence.

Then just say you don't like it. You don't have to be a tool and call it crap. The amount of people playing it seems to show that it's liked.

reply

Nope, I said the story is crap and don't be a tool if you can't take negative criticism of something that you like.

And this isn't the Bloodborne fanboy message board. Considering there's plenty of people of playing it, you can stay at those relevant boards.

By the way, additional info, most of the plot is told through item descriptions.

I didn't realize this was a Bloodborne haters page either so don't take any shots on that, garbage pail.

Bloodborne is one of the best games I have played in a while. The main sell of the game was not the difficulty or sense of self-gratification after beating it. I like fun, entertaining and challenging games. The story is mysterious and I liked that. The victorian themes, music and gameplay were fantastic.

Bloodborne is a 10/10 and game of the year.

Have you played the game? I would not be negative towards a game you have yet to play. While you may not like the story you may enjoy the gameplay.

The selling point of Bloodborne is not the story, though I did find the story intriguing and mysterious and the game doesn't beat you over the head with it. The selling point of this game is the amazing gameplay, the tough as nails combat, and the sense of accomplishment when you clear areas and defeat bosses.

PLAY IT!

I'm just about done with Old Yarnham and I couldn't really tell you what the story is about. Don't really care though. The game is f'ing amazing. It's not really about the story (usually a negative for me) but that's ok--when the gameplay and atmosphere is the well done.

FYI--my first "souls" game...

Yeah, I think story is usually important in games, but that tends to vary all over the place. Games like Witcher 3 have a great story as their centerpiece. Bloodborne has an intriguing story, but it doesn't take center stage like some other games do. Those who say this is a flaw of the game are really reaching. As you said, the game is spectacular for other reasons. Seldom have I wandered down terrifying, dark, gothic streets in a videogame and felt more terror and fear. This game has atmosphere NAILED.

I doubt I'll ever finish Bloodborne due to the difficulty, but that's almost beside the point. Some games weren't meant to be simply "finished"....some go on forever, and maybe that's for the best. There's something pure about putting down the game for a couple of weeks and then coming back for another go, hoping for more success and less death this time. It's an ongoing, constant challenge. Frustrating? Hell yes, but to me that only adds to its mystique.

FYI--my first "souls" game...

I've played the previous Souls games but this is the first one I really felt connected to and wanted to keep playing, despite constantly dying. There's just something about it...you always say "one more try". The previous Souls games don't quite do it for me, though I do find them interesting.

Will be fascinating to see what Dark Souls 3 is like. Some say it's more like Bloodborne than its predecessors. Fine by me. 😂

Sometimes I like to clear an area and then just meander around investigating all the nooks and crannies. you really have to just take some time to enjoy they architecture and little details the developers designed.

Funny that you mention TW3--my fav. game of 2015. Bloodborne is a close second though.

And, your quote. I thought it was from Boogie Nights but googled it just to make sure. Great movie...

Absolutely, BB is a game where it's great fun just to wander around. There's a TON of things that are easily overlooked if you don't check out every corner.

I have TW3 also but just starting it. That looks like a mammoth game to tackle but looking forward to it.

Yes, my quote is from Boogie Nights, one of my all-time faves! Poor Paul Anderson....he's really not been the same since then, though There Will be Blood was an exception.

I put over 300 hours into TW3. Only game I've ever played more hours was Final Fantasy Xiv.

If you really crank the difficulty, TW3 would be like a massive open-world "souls" rpg--as difficulty and play style is concerned. I know that TW3 kicked my butt at first/almost impossible difficulty to begin.

What I am finding difficult about TW3 at the very start is the combat. It seems very hard in a "Souls-ish" way, but maybe you just have to level-up soon. Great game though!
