Anyone try the Old Hunters DLC?

How is it? I sold back my copy of Bloodborne so I need to get another copy soon..

reply

By all accounts, The Old Hunters is supposed to be an amazing DLC, though apparently even more difficult than the original game...if that's your thing. I intend to get it at some point.

I just played through it and you are right sir. The Old Hunters had some of the most difficult bosses in the game for me. It was the first time where I needed to summon help to beat a boss. I was also in my NG+ though so that probably made it even more difficult.

reply

Yikes...this frightens me...lol. I've killed about 4-5 bosses on Bloodborne and most were very difficult. For some reason, the Hemwick Witches were incredibly easy (just kill the hatching things first). To think how difficult Old Hunters is....gives me serious pause! If I can't even beat BB, how could I dream to beat Old Hunters?

I just bought "DS2: Scholar of the First Sin", since I missed that DLC the first time around. Tried it?

The Hemwick Witches are the easiest. Have you fought Amygdala yet? That was a tough boss for me.

The Old Hunters is tough, but again I was on my NG+ so it might not be as difficult for you if you don't start your NG+ on it. After you fight margo the wet nurse I would run through the Chalice Dungeons or Old Hunters after.

You know I just recently played Dark Souls for the first time and I was going to pick up the artorias dlc for it because people were telling me I should play through it. I will try to check out Dark Souls II before the third one comes out. I have heard mixed things about Dark Souls II though that is not quite as good because Hidetaka Miyazaki was developing Bloodborne.

reply

Nope, no Amygdala yet. Then again, I took a 2-month break from the game but need to pick it up again. I reached the rock-throwing giants and keep getting onto some very large poisonous river area and couldn't get out of it. Got pretty frustrated.

I am very excited for DS3, but need to hit DS2-Scholar before I try the new one in April. I thought DS1 was very hard to get into. Loved Demons Souls, but just kinda gave up at some point because I couldn't advance.

These games are kinda like enjoyable torture....I keep coming back for more.

You are right in the area before you fight Amygdala. I would recommend putting on your best poison resistant clothes and finding a elevator that will lead you to a shortcut to the boss. That is a tough level, good luck.

Why did you find Dark Souls hard to get into? I think Dark Souls 3 is going to be similar to Bloodborne and the original Dark Souls. I still need to try Demon Souls.

reply

Oh wow...didn't know Amy G (as I call her) was so close! You mentioned the best poison resistant clothes. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but how do you know which armor/clothes are poison resistant? I have avoided looking online before, to avoid spoilers/clues.

I liked Demons better because there's a bit of a difficulty ramp, though it requires tons of grinding, IMHO. Souls 1, they throw you right into a boss fight from the start and, though I eventually beat it (the boss, not the game), it didn't suck me in for some reason, the way BB did....hard to explain. DS2, I enjoyed a lot, but also gave up way too early. Ready to come back to it, after I got DS2-Scholar DLC version for my birthday.

It is similar to Dark Souls in when you put on different armors/clothes some of your different stats will go up or down when you put them on.

Like for example when you put on the charred robes in Bloodborne they are some of the most fire resistant in the game. Your stat for fire resistance will go way up (turn blue). I think the white church garbs are the most poison resistant in Bloodborne.

Hope that helps I am bad at explaining things. I got to check out Demon Souls now. I played Dark Souls after Bloodborne so it took me a bit getting used to the much slower pace of Dark Souls, but once I did I enjoyed Dark Souls a lot.

reply

Thanks for the tips on the armors...will try em out!

Yes, your experience going to DS after BB is why I am really looking forward to DS3. The pace is supposed to be as fast as BB, while maintaining the old Souls universe. Have you seen yesterday's screenshots released? They look amazing...especially that tiny king on the huge throne. FAB!

I have seen some of the new screenshots and videos. It looks damn good. I am trying not to watch any more videos of gameplay though because I want to be surprised when I see some of these epic bosses and environments.

reply

Yes, good point...agreed. I also want to be surprised but I am also so excited for the game that I had to take a quick peek this week!

Did you complete Demon Souls?

I hear the most difficult part of that one is that the checkpoints are not as abundant.

reply

Oh, bigtime on the checkpoints. No, sadly, I did not finish Demon Souls. The funny thing is now I want to go back to it, but my PS3 died several months ago and they didn't remake it for the PS4. If they did, I'd probably splurge for it. Maybe they'll bring it to PS NOW?

::spoilers::

The dlc is pretty tough, needed help on lady Maria and the last boss; and the light posts are spread out pretty far apart.

From the start fighting hunters left n right...so take your time and be careful but hardest boss for me in the dlc was the first boss, ludwig. Fuggin noghtmare!!
