when did you realize Gabriel was a girl?

Wan did a pretty good job editing Gabriel's killing scenes where you couldn't see too much.

But it became clear to me during the second kill that Gabriel/the killer was a girl

there was one shot that Wan just let go slightly too long and you could clearly see the body shape of the killer and I instantly knew it was a girl.

My first thought was "God is Madison gonna end up being the killer somehow? Because I knew the killer was a girl

but because of James Wan's dishonesty in how he lied and misdirected the audience with the invisible killer on the couch scene and Madison being chased by a black ghost...

My next thought was "well it can't be Madison because we know there's something supernatural going on here(Because of the invisible entity on the couch) and we know there's some sort of entity since Madison was chased up the stairs by a black ghost."

So I did not think it was Madison(that was my first thought) once I knew the killer was a girl, but Wan's dishonesty and misdirect completely threw me off.

So the whole movie I was thinking "well I know Gabriel is a girl but I also know it's not Madison so who the hell could Gabriel be?"

Next I never put together what was wrong with the killers movement, I did not remotely expect the killer was walking backwards.

I absolutely noticed there was something wrong with the way the killer moves but honestly I kinda thought it might have had something to do with CGI, have any of you ever seen the movie "Mama"

in that film there's a CGI ghost / spirit... And it's completely CGI but the figure like Gabriel is thin and moves oddly but the reason why it moved oddly was due to the CGI

so I was thinking maybe the reason why it looks like Gabriel is moving so weirdly it's because they're mixing in CGI,

but basically my question is when did you realize Gabriel was a girl and did you realize it like me from seeing a shot from the film and recognizing Gabriel had the body shape of a woman

again I think Wan did a very good job of trying to hide it and editing the kill scenes but for me there was just one shot that Wan let go too long that clearly showed the killer's body type was a woman

I realized early on the killer was most likely female.

The parkour chase scene in the underground where kekoa was running after Gabriel was when I figured it was Madison's body. Or at least had an initial suspicion.

I also didn't realize the backwards behavior. I legit just thought Gabriel was handicapped per the films prologue lol

no you are the creep that doesnt know how to fully read posts and accuse people of saying things they didnt actually say....

you have also become ODDLY Obsessed with defending this film, so much so that you cant accepted plot holes that are universally agreed upon by literally almost every person that watches this film...

i'm also now wondering if you are fully there mentally now that you some how believe i have a problem with the film that i havent remotely expressed....i truly have no clue how you could believe I have a problem with the twist or films with twists...

i've said from the beginning the twist in this is amazing....

again Ive ever noted plot holes in the film that the overwhelming majority who watch the film all agree with....

but for some extremely weird reason, you are defending the film too such an Obsessive degree that you cant accept the film has any plot holes...

heres a nugget for you....by admitting the obvious that the film has these plothole that are shared by almost every person that watches the movie....that doesnt mean you hate the movie or are saying the movie is bad

you can love the movie and think its great but still admit the film has plot holes...

It is definitely full of plot holes. I actually liked it despite that, but this movie breaks its own rules too often to be a classic.

Like in the very first scene where you see the full hair and body of the character. It was super obvious that it was the main character (whatever her name is) because they had the exact same freaking hair

Frankly, if you didn't figure this out by, like, the 3rd killing scene you must be kind of slow. Wan didn't do a good job of hiding it at all. It was obvious that the protagonist was the main killer as soon as it was revealed that she was adopted and didn't remember anything before being adopted

The only actual "twist" in the movie was that the bad guy was a "teratoma" and not just a spiritual/supernatural entity. But even then that wasn't so surprising considering the title of the freaking film and the line at the beginning of "time to remove the cancer"

It WAS an entertaining movie, I'll give it that. But it is also one of the stupidest movies I've seen in a while. I don't care if it was intentional, stupid is stupid. This movie proved that James Wan NEEDS Leigh Whannell (or any other good writer) in order to make a movie that possesses any genuine cleverness

You should probably had "IMO" in front on statements like this...

because I'm not trying to be mean here, But if you did figure it out so soon, you are in the minority...

Based on everything I've read, the overwhelming majority of people that watched,reviewed and have commented on this movie, wasnt as "smart" as you and didnt in fact figure it out during the whole move let alone the 1st scene ....

so apparently Wan did in fact do a very good job of hiding it....you seem to just be in a small minority who were just "so smart" that you figured it out

Theres been a few movies too where I have figured out the twist early or right away, but I diidnt feel the need to brag about it or feel the director did a terrible job of hiding, especially once I researched the consensus of the film and saw the overwhelming majority were surprised by the twist...

I do admit though with Malignant is kinda different due to the lengths and extremes Wan had to go to in order to hide the twist....most movies use misdirection....Wan simply had to LIE and use Dishonesty....Wan literally had to build an entire movie around a single idea for a twist ending and in order to make the twist ending work, He had to flat use dishonesty in many scenes(The Ghost chasing madison up the stairs is probably for me the single most dishonest scene I've ever seen in a movie and is the ONLY reason why I did not believe The killer was madison)

anyways glad you figured it out so soon....but its clear the overwhelming majority did not...which mean Wan did in fact do a good job of hiding the twist and hiding that The Killer was Madison

I did figure it out that early. Not trying to brag, I just watch a lot of mysteries and thrillers and the tropes used and the tricks used to conceal twists tend to repeat themselves

The first clue was that in the opening scene they call the child "Gabriel" (a man's name), but they don't ever actually show the child. So by the time I saw the monster had long brown hair and a lanky build like the protagonist it seemed clear to me

I figured it out early as well
for the same reasons as you.

If you’ve ever watched the TV show ‘Lost’ then they basically use some great tricks to conceal some crazy twists. It kind of trained my brain to look for tricks whenever I’m watching a mystery thriller/horror, particularly what is and isn’t shown to the audience.

But Malignant is no ‘Lost’ and the film’s twist was to me very obvious (and it was to my friends as well who I watched the film with.)

The last time I think a twist in a horror film genuinely got me was ‘The Visit’

I realized earlier than most anyone that the killer was on the other side of her head. I thought it was obvious, but I guess not.

The socks at the beginning made me think he was a girl, but I wasn't expecting the 'total recall' shit.
