"Every minimalist should have a blow dryer!" What?

Okay let me get this straight.
I know the message of the movie has been obfuscated by a lot of self promotion for the book. And what at times seemed like privileged people talking about cutting down.
Yes, minimalism is not synonymous with being poor or living cheap. You could own...say....only 51 things and spend hundreds of dollars on hotel stays. Is that still still minimalism? Maybe not quite.

But a huge point of it was to shed these pre programmed values of consumerism and in turn vanity. For when we live for ourselves we're only concerned about the essence of things, not the fluff around it.

That's why when the blow dryer scene came up, I lost it.

Am I right in being a bit pissed about this?
