As someone who has spent a lot of time researching Auschwitz-Birkenau and the layout of the crematoria and gas chambers (both inside and out) can I just tip my hat and say well done to the film makers who got the details spot on. It was absolutely flawless.

Getting the small historical details right is so important in a movie like this and "Son of Saul" really brought the audience back to Auschwitz in 1944 to witness the horror for themselves as it actually happened.

Some survivors described the experience as being in "Dante's Inferno" and after seeing the harrowing scenes at the pits and the aftermath of the gassings it's easy to see why.

BerlinDancer, with all due respect, I don't think you spent enough time researching Auschwitz-Birkenau.

This movie is not "flawless" & even the director would agree, I think.

"The Grey Zone" was more accurate in its production design.
The crematoria II and III looked nearly exactly like the historical ones.
At least from the outside and according to the plans.
Even the location within the Auschwitz-Birkenau complex was correct.

What you see at the beginning of "Son of Saul" - how the victims get to the
gas chambers - wouldn't have been possible in A/B.

Compare it with a map & you will see.

Director Laszlo Nemes simply didn't have enough money to re-build the complex
accurately.

Movie: 10/10
Historical Accuracy: 8/10
