Prequel or sequel?

Curious how this ties in with continuity (the movies, TV shows, specials...this)

It must be a prequel, because King Julien is crowned in the first episode. He also makes reference to being king for "only a week" in a later episode. I love this show and so do my kids. It is really well written and has the same quality as the theatrical releases. Good job Netflix!
