Bad reviews misleading

I'm tired of reading bad reviews that are comprised of a string of criticisms about the LDS church. If you are reviewing a movie, you should stick to that. The movie was advertised as a documentary to show you the lives of 6 different Mormons - not to apologize for all the shady areas in the religion's past. Some reviewers insist on giving the movie bad reviews because it "failed to mention prop 8" or "left out the past of racism." If the movie was about those 6 people, which it was, then why on Earth would the writers put those unrelated topics in?

Stop giving the movie bad reviews because of why you think it was written and actually review it based on what was written and how well it was executed.

It's like the whole movie-review industry decided to stop being professionals because of a Mormon-made movie. The stories are true and they are touching. How is it propaganda to share those stories? And - if you say they use their voodoo magic to bring about emotion, then maybe you need to learn more about the film business. Because that "magic" is actually kind of necessary in the movies.

So, yes, give bad reviews if you want to. Say something about the acting or the music or the pacing, or the lighting, or something you'd discuss if you were reviewing any other movie.

And if you don't want to see the movie - Don't. But they had every right to make it and to advertise it.

'You People' are so self absorbed, you haven't even realised you're commenting and reviewing the wrong film. This particular "Meet the Mormons" was a great documentary on Channel 4 in the UK earlier in the year. It gave a much more realistic view of what the Mormons really are - A ridiculous cult.

I have noticed however your cult members on mass have managed to get all the bad reviews removed from the real page for your ridiculous infomercial.

You do however shed light on the term Morg Borg. LOL

Actually, I'm an inactive member of the Mormon church.

And I didn't realize this was the wrong film (my bad). Since I noticed too much funny business on the other one, when I came across this, I thought perhaps it was a new page for the same film.

So, yeah, that was stupid of me. But my argument is not that the Mormon church is perfect, but that the film reviews show critiques of the religion instead of the film. I was talking about professional film reviews - not personal ones on blogs and imdb.

By the way, I was raised Mormon and didn't see anything in the movie that is out of the ordinary. I wasn't subjected to strange rituals in my 20 years, I wasn't abused or brainwashed. I am, as it happens, an average 20-something-year-old who doesn't know where she stands religiously at the moment, and is studying and contributing to the world in my own way. But I should be able to say that I am Mormon without people insulting me and assuming my entire personal history. Even if it WERE a cult, which a lot of things are if we actually go by the definition, its members are individuals who don't deserve the hate they get from so many people around the world.

Yeah, I just re-read my post and am very confused at how you even jumped to the conclusion that I was Mormon? I would have been equally as bothered by a documentary showing the lives of 6 quakers and then reading PROFESSIONAL movie reviews only talking about how damaging they think the culture is. Their job is to review films.

If I posted to the wrong page, it's because of an oversight. I'm sorry if that gave you the impression I was Mormon.

If my argument came across as emotionally-charged or self-absorbed, it's because I'm in my 20's - not because I'm Mormon.

I had no say in the constant cleaning of the imdb board. My guess is that religion bashing is equally as likely to be removed from message boards as other controversial topics. Which was my point. Can't people focus on the movie? People who post comment after comment despite not having seen the movie are annoying on every other message board - why should they be seen differently on that one?

Calling it a "ridiculous infomercial" is actually an acceptable review. It doesn't matter who agrees or disagrees - at least you are obviously talking about the movie.

It's funny how this documentary was critically praised while the "comedy film" received zeroes and twos all around. There's some actual talent in this one behind the camera and I sympathize with the Elder.
