Why they changed Gabby a lot? (compared to the book)

I know the book's Gabby was a little unlikeable, spoiled and a little bratty and the Gabby from the movie is more likeable although she somehow keeps the essence of the version of the book. But my question is, why they decided to change her so much?
Her mom and her whole family background on the book is so different and much better explained, and Gabby is rich and even a little spoiled, while in the movie it's implied that she was just "the help's daughter" all along and they toned down when she didn't made it that easy to Travis when she was trying to be faithful for her boyfriend while on the movie she says no like twice and that's it LOL.
Probably it worked for the movie to make her more relateable but it annoyed me. I can forget that she's a redhead on the book and a blonde in the film but the personality was changed a lot, it was like they were two different characters.

I agree that they cut a lot of important details from the book.

Like their whole weekend where they got to know each other in the book. It felt so rushed in the movie, and, like you said, she really didn't say "no" as much in the movie. Or talk about "her boyfriend" (but without talking about him too much). But I guess they had to cut things.

They changed one "small" detail, though, and I wish they hadn't because.. why change that. In the movie, she says she heard him talk to her in her coma. In the book, she explicitly says the opposite.
