Going by Meta and Rotten Tomatoes the audience really liked the film but critics for some reason are bashing it. Seems like nice enough film and the director is to be commended for taking the initial criticism of Sonic's design to heart and improving it.

Sonic is a video game, video games are part of Gamer Gate, Gamergaters are labeled as incel white males by racist woke idiots. Racist woke idiots hate Sonic.
What makes them even more racist is the projection that only white men enjoy video games.
Now, repeat the loop and insert anything white(allegedly) men like, and the loop continues.
It's a movie based on a video game where "run" is the primary action. Now, I'm not saying anything good or bad about the actual movie - I haven't seen it. But this is not a recipe for a movie that film critics will like, regardless of the film's quality as perceived by its fans/target audience.
I read a review of Death Race 2000 which concluded with, "It's basically just an excuse for guys to drive fast and shoot each other while attractive women in shorts to sit next to them in the car". It said this as a dismissive negative, but it was basically what was in the trailer. Critics didn't like Death Race 2000, but I think the people looking for that movie thought it rocked.
Same is probably true for Sonic the Hedgehog.
64 on RT seems decent for a movie like this.

shareCritics are assholes. Most are jaded, brainless idiots in Hollywood that wouldn't know a good film if it walked up and introduced itself. If you take a look at several movies, Critics usually have terrible taste. They love the shitty films/tv shows and ignore or bash the good ones.
There is also evidence to suggest that their reviews are not always written honestly. A fine example would be critics' reviews of that horrendous "Ghostbusters" reboot with all women in it, before it came out in theaters. After it came out, they didn't have to pretend it was great anymore. In fact, it just proves that if you throw enough money at a critic, they'll write anything you want about a movie, even if it sucks like the vacuum of space!
I saw this film just now I give it a 7 out of 10.

I saw it last night, quite enjoyed it. Possibly more aimed at kids, but it was entertaining enough. Jim Carrey was great.
It's not trying to be Citizen Kane, it's just trying to be harmless fun. If at any point in your life you've enjoyed playing Sonic Games it's worth a watch.
Everybody at some point in their life will enjoy a film that critics hated, or hate a film that critics love. Best just to watch and make up your own mind.
