Bryan Cranston is always good

He was good in Malcolm, great in Breaking Bad, and if I could just get over this mental block as to the subject material, he was good as LBJ. What was wrong with 'Al The Way' was not its cast or their acting. What was wrong was failing to present LBJ as the turd he was. There was one point in the movie where LBJ says "I never wanted to be President." My wife and I laughed out loud at that one. If he didn't want to be President she should have declined inauguration and died in prison. The Presidency was the only thing that prevented the Billy Sol Estes and Bobby Baker scandals from encompassing him, and he only became President because his boss was murdered. I remember the election of 1964. It was never a close race. The Republicans could have run nobody to offset the sympathy votes that swept LBJ elected. For the last year of JFK's term, LBJ could do no wrong. For the last year of his term, he could do no right. Johnson was so toxic, anybody could have run against Humphrey and won, even Nixon.
Yeah, the movie was well casted. Yeah the movie was well acted. But it sure failed to make 1964 look the way I remember it.
