Will Lara ever wear shorts again???

Seriously, or has liberal social justice warrior feminists taken over the video game world too.

I grew up on PS1 Tomb Raider; Lara in a tight crop top and short shorts. Is this never coming back?

When it makes sense, probably. I don't see why developers who work SO HARD in making a realistic game would put Lara Croft in short shorts while in locations like Siberia just because it's part of her "iconic image." People like you are just as annoying as those unreasonable feminists...always bringing feminism into the equation, whining about it, even though there's a much simpler explanation right in front of your face.

reply

This game is set in Siberia.wouldnt make much sense for her to be on shorts lol .maybe they will do a jungle setting in the next game

reply

I hear you, OP. Couldn't agree more.

And to the dense fúcks yapping about realism: It's a computer game.

And in all of the Tomb Raider games up until the previous one, i.e. the ones that are the reason anyone's ever heard of Lara Croft, she's been sporting highly irrational tiny shorts even in blizzards. If you think Lara Croft would be anything close to the iconic figure she is without the huge tits, flimsy t-shirts and handkerchief shorts, you're simply comicallly clueless. 

So far the sales of the new game have been very disappointing in spite of rave reviews, and I sincerely hope it'll lead them back to portray the actual character in upcoming games instead of this bland, politically correct "anybody" they're pushing.

Don't bother. The PC culture that exists today has overtaken everybody and it gets worse by the day. The next game could be set in an environment where less clothing, to remain cool, would be required but these idiots would still find a way to be offended. These morons who support people like Anita Sarkeesian. "Realism" only applies when it supports their idiotic argument. So Siberia, more clothing, makes perfect sense. Tropical Island setting, shorts and tank top, the SJWs would lose their damn minds and say the developers have resorted to sexualizing Lara again eventhough if we're going with 'realism' a tank top and shorts makes perfect sense in a hotter environment.

Bottomline, if you want Lara in shorts again, play the old games from a time when people weren't totally f'ed up morons. When men still had their balls and people who were making tv shows, video games and movies weren't caving to radical nutjobs.

reply

You might be right, but I like to think there's hope. The only thing that stands a chance against the SJWs is big profit, so I'm still crossing my fingers for continued low sales.

Thing is, Square Enix IS kind of schizophrenic, because in-between these two last reboot games, only a year ago, they still published the well received "Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris", the spin-off sequel to "Guardian of Light". And here she's the classic Lara with tiny shorts, big cleavage and all...

I've had three girlfriends over the years who've been avid Tomb Raider-players, and I've never once heard them complain about her outfits. And like me, they also appreciated her cocky, arrogant and sarcastic personality, which also seems to be taken away from the new wimpy version.

BTW, I wonder just how many reboot-Lara's we're going to see at the comic cons compared to the classic ones. Not many, is my guess. 

Yeah, I've played those spinoffs, good games, but the reason you're not seeing people complain about those is the perspective from which you're playing. It's top down and fairly distant. A third person, big-budget game like the current Tomb Raiders, with those classic outfits? It's much easier for people to manipulate the camera and then come with this bs about how the game is depicting women in a negative way. It sucks but developers' hands are tied. I better start getting better reasoning than 'realism' though. Yes, it's very realistic to slide down the side of a mountain and survive with only a few scratches. In games like Mortal Kombat X, which the developers for that also use the bs 'realism' excuse for why the women in that game no longer have more revealing costumes, you're fighting four-armed monsters, demons, etc and yet what people lose their minds about and what takes them out of the experience is a costume which might show some under cleavage? Laughable.

reply

Yes, realism really isn't any kind of excuse at all unless you're making a simulator of some sort.

Mortal Kombat's never really been my thing, so I don't know that much about the latest developments -- but I'd say realism isn't quite the first thing that jumps to mind about it. 

BTW, I came across a review/article that pretty perfectly sums up the crappy TR reboot, in my opinion. Fairly sure many people agree with this, without daring to say it publically:

Oh, yah, uh huh. Like I haven't already thought of that. Bravo. What a wonderful discovery.

If it's just "a computer game," then why does she shiver in the cold? Why do the devs even bother with showing her breath? It's a computer game, I know, but they put those in to ground the game in reality. Ultimately, it's IS still just a videogame, but with those things in place, it really wouldn't make much sense to put her in short shorts. You're the one who is "comically clueless," hon.
