Just saw it - Pleasantly suprised.

You know how when a really popular movie/film gets a 2nd life, and a larger budget to it & suddenly it sucks? This is what I was afraid would happen to CG:TM. I am pleased to say....it didn't. I would actually call it my 2nd favorite film of 2014.

My only suggestion if you are going during its theatrical release. DO NOT bother showing up early to watch the "special" stuff before the showing. It was SOooo boring, tiresome & I would say the vast majority of my theatre was exhausted by it. I heard maybe 5 times over the 20 minutes of this stuff anyone laugh & often it was a couple quick chuckles.

My suggestion. Show up, grab your seat & as soon as they start the intro into the "trivia" and singing, go for a bathroom break or get your snacks if you don't already have them.

Yeah, the extra stuff at the start was clearly for the kids and for merchandising. It got wearisome, but the movie was definitely worth sitting through all that.

I disagree! I thought the pre-show show was an amusing way to pass the time, and I appreciate the lesson on how to make an "Origami Saskatchwan!"

The Origami Saskatchewan part did get the biggest laughs. Certainly the highlight of the show.

The Origami Saskatchewan was by far the best of the preshow. It got the biggest laugh before the opening.

"Mary had a little lamb-BUT I ATE IT!!!"

reply

Origami Saskatchewan was the ONLY part I was amused by in the pre-show.

Count me as pleasantly surprised as well. The opening sequence & 'parade' is quite over the top & I was wondering if they really were going to be out of their element.

A comparable for me was the first Trailer Park Boys Movie which felt tonally different from what we grew to love. Thankfully the 2 sequels were more down to earth & on point with the series, while retaining a larger than life movie feel together.

The best compliment I have for this Corner Gas Movie is definitely the script & screenplay. Holy cow lots going on all over the map, yet they kept it all tied together nicely without getting convoluted or goofy.
Not sure how the heck they wrapped their brains around writing it, must've been several sleepless nights trying to keep the logic together.

Yet they prevailed & it's great.

I liked it a lot, too. Felt like a really good episode of the show -- same tone, great one-liners, and no one seemed like they were trying to be funny.

Really enjoyable.
