I hope the film finally answers this burning question.

Why does everyone spit whenever anyone mentions the town of Wullerton?

Free chili cheese dogs for everybody! !

reply

Because they hate Wullerton!

reply

That much I understand, but what is the Specific reason for the bad blood. There was an episode where at the end of it, Davis was on the Wullerton Police Force. Upon the mention of Dog River by his partner, Davis spits. His Wullerton PD partner seems taken aback by the spitting so the feeling doesn't seem to be mutual on their end.

it's their rival...that's why....

it's like say two teams playing football......you love the one that you're in, but hate the one that's your closet rival....

more or less

or say it's like Toronto and montreal in hockey....

Or Boston and Montreal in hockey. Or Quebec and Montreal in hockey. The Habs have had a TON of very bitter rivalries over the years.

They just hate each other. It's a small town thing, we don't need a reason haha

Lol...I spoke to this on the Corner Gas show imdb board. I said it would be kind of a cute plot if Dog River is in trouble (construction or financial) and nothing they do ends up working. But in the end, Wullerton ends up saving them! It would be a nice twist.

To answer your question....no idea. I think they said they were once going to go into it, but it never developed. I suspect it would be something trivial but that they would blow it out of proportion as their lives are very basic (but good natured). Maybe one of Lacey's crazy greatfather's dogs made his way to Wullerton (so it wouldnt get thrown in the river like the rest) and a kind person took it in and it cause a dispute between the two towns. Then we find out that dog's descendent was HOBO...lol.

"...find out that dog's descendent was HOBO..."

Now that is an excellent plot idea and would fit perfectly in the typical Dog River sillyness!

I agree....

it's going to be something trivial...

I cannot believe I called it. I just saw the movie online and it was like wearing a pair of comfortable shoes that had been tucked away. Thank you for the good memories, Brett.

True but I think they made it a point (my opinion) that Wullerton was truly nice as they bailed out their town and all the people there were genuine. From what we saw, the adults made sure the kids were being good, multiple fundraisers to save their neighbors, and the town was clean and thriving. It was just showing how the folks in Saskatchewan were just a little bit prejudiced (imo) for reasons unknown and they acted irrationally to the folks from Wullerton..even if they were truly warm and decent people.

...And that's exactly what happened in the movie! Good call.

I'd like to know how/why Paul became Phil.

I believe it to be more along the line of Norm's wife Vera on "Cheers", and Niles' wife Maris on "Frasier" or Howard's mother on BBT never being seen. It's better and funnier left to your imagination. I do like another user's idea of Wullerton coming to the rescue of Dog River in the movie and bringing full circle so to speak.

Just saw the movie! Possible spoilers:

Wullerton is finally shown in the movie. (Remember, the episode where Davis went to work for Wullerton took place in Hank's imagination so that doesn't count.) It turns out it's "the perfect town" where they have choir recitals, lemonade stands for charity and everyone is friendly. Like, super-friendly. Creepy-friendly. And it creeps the residents of Dog River out.

In fact, what averagejoeman2013 said kind of happened. Dog River was in a financial pickle and near the end of the movie, Wullerton helped them out by raising money for their town. Brent's reply: something like, "They did it all for the publicity, pretty selfish if you ask me."

Think Boston Red Sox fans talking about New York Yankees. *spit*

Speaking of Wullerton, I once had a newspaper from Brett Butt's hometown. It mentioned the retirement of one of the high school teachers, old enough to have been teaching when Butt was in school. Her name was one letter off of Wullerton. So the spitting thing may be an inside joke.

Most of Wullerton filmed at ground level was actuallly the city of Regina. Paper Umbrella is not a theatre but an independent paper stationers in the city.
