Why would anyone watch this? oh wait it's 2015

1. the trailer already gave away what happens in the movie
2. when you look at the trailer it's clear this story has been done to death, cliche after cliche, you know you've seen this movie already the only difference is it now involves Dj's, this is clearly a rework of a redundant story purely to make money off younger audiences
3. this type of movie attracts a crowd that aren't even interested in watching good movies, just kids who blindly follow anything that panders to them, "if it has drinking and partying in it man it must be cool huh", "yeah f.ck school man imma be a millionaire" again just proves this is a cash grab
4. casts a star who is really popular with teens but not particularly talented, cast a hot girl who was nude in a popular music video, again, no effort at even trying to be good, just couldn't be more of a blatant attempt at a cashgrab

you want to see this movie fine, just know it's all about taking your money, but that's what most newer movies interested in making the big money seem to be all about these days, recycled sh.t over and over again

While I think this is aimed to a very juvenile audience, I don't think Efron is an actor "to attract teens" anymore, when people will realize the guy is almost 30 years old?

reply

Still a teen idol playing people in their early 20's, lot of the cast is getting close to 30, teens only fear average looking 30 year olds

reply

The movie looks good. Allas a bit formulatic. But very few movies can be anything but formulatic. At least this movie reflects whats happening with the college bubble.

To be fair trailers can always be missleading and the subject of a movie doesn't say anything about a movie. I would like to know what you would say if this exact movie was made by David Fincher. You would probably change your mind. However, the trailer does make it look like a fairly generic movie. I'll wait for the reviews though.

reply

If David Fincher directed this, i would be first in line.
With that being said, what is the connection between what the initial poster stated about the trailer and your response regarding David Fincher?

reply

Well, he made assumptions about the movie without having seen it. Yes, he adressed the trailer but it was mainly assumptions about the finished product. If a highly praised director would have made this, he probably wouldnt have posted this, and go in and see it with an open mind. The trailer makes it look like an average film, but if it ended with "directed by David Fincher" people would have changed their mind.

This is pretty much EDM High School Musical. These days, films like these are probably gonna spawn a never ending trail of sequels....

Every story has been done to death sorry to tell you. Every story fits into on story archetype for example Alien, Jaws, Fatal Attraction, Scream, The Exorcist, they're all the same movie. They have the same story formula. So yeah this story as been done before but so has every story it's all in execution and really always has been. And you're right it features DJs and not some other type of character like an athlete but that's why it's somewhat, I say somewhat original. I don't particularly want to see this movie, but I also have to say that nothing is original anymore, it really isn't. Also saying that this film is targeted to an audience that isn't interested in watching good movies, who decides if a movie is good… you. No the person who watches it, the person who says I have an interest in that story I think I'll go see it. Everyone has their own opinions and they can make up their own minds as to what they think is good or not.

reply

I'm pretty sure you could boil down the plot/'meaning' of this film into a 3 minute pop song and it would be better than the film. Why would you make a whole film about sort of falling in love with someone and partying?

reply

Because we're in 2015 and that's the Film audience you get nowaday$.

-You won't forget me now?

-No. I've got nobody else to remember.

reply

Why would anyone watch this? All the other posters make good points but miss the simple answer: Because Zac Efron has a shower scene.

reply

Zac Efron has a shower scene? Gosh, now I must watch that movie… :P

reply

This is clearly aimed at the teen crowd and the people who passively like Techno style music. Personally, I think this movie looks a lot like Mariah Carey's epic film failure "Glitter." It's campy melodrama in which the audience is going to find as a laugh riot, especially at the moments considered most dramatic. This will be in and out of the theaters within weeks.

After viewing the trailer, I know it's a movie I don't want to see. I can't imagine watching a nearly two hour movie about DJ-ing.
