Totally obvious ad for LA tourism and migration

Shameless as hell.

It is?

reply

No doubt. That opening number made me nostalgic for my two hour daily commute.

reply

Kitschy attempt to make the audience sympathize with the film, maybe. Everyone knows LA traffic is bad, why hide it?

reply

Everyone is a critic.

reply

Wait, traffic is bad? Let's sing and dance together!

reply

There's no question that a lot of the Academy fondness for the film stems from it's homage to Hollywood musicals
and it's featuring of LA landmarks.

reply

No, not really... The film presents the Fantasy of Los Angeles, not the reality, the dream of coming to LA to pursue a dream, and if you're working as a barista then at least your roommates and the people stuck in traffic with you will burst into musical numbers as you head for parties in Beverly Hills, and then you get rich and famous.

A person would have to be pretty silly to take it was an ad for migration and make any plans based on it, although I imagine that those who've already migrated (and have become AMPAS voters) absolutely love it. But ad for tourism, yeah, the film is bursting for love for Los Angeles, and even manages to make it look beautiful - which takes some pretty clever cinematography.

I can't wait until MC.org has an ignore list.

reply

It does... just click the ignore button to the right beneath your post. Keep in mind at this point though that it isn't reversible

reply

Oh wow, geeze. There it is. Thanks much.

Goodbye again Bricksie.

reply

Good riddance. You have mental problems.
