Terry

Does anyone else get annoyed with how much he disses or "jokes" around with Paul? I just watched the most recent episode, and it seemed like in each talking head or interview with a patient, he could not go without making some sort of comment about him. He's just so catty and immature for his age.

Paul invites that kind of joking somehow. His ex-wife would do the same. He probably likes it. It's still annoying.

I don't think it's annoying. It may be something he does, without realizing it, to maybe lighten the moment, maybe make the patient feel less...idk clinical. I actually do that, but I make fun of myself not someone else lol

I FF through their joking back and fourth.

The first episode I saw it didn't seem too bad; it was mostly joking about his lack of a significant other and trying to hook him up. That's pretty normal ribbing for friends.

But he lays in hard about how Paul looks and it makes me uncomfortable. He crosses the line between playful ribbing into just being a cruel jerk to me. Real irony being that Terry is way less attractive than Paul (and maybe that's why he lays in so hard; he's jealous that female fans tend to prefer Paul).

And Paul strikes me as the type who's just too laid back and nonconfrontational to do anything about it even if he hates it; especially on TV.

Yeah I totally agree.

I think Paul is such a sweet, attractive and professional gentleman and Terry really comes across as cruel and degrading.

He relentlessly makes hateful jokes about Paul's appearance that don't even apply, and Paul never retaliates.

I don't know how anyone could see this as 'good-natured' joking because Terry uses Paul's physical appearance as a punching bag of sorts for all of his jokes which has got to be painful for Paul on some level, and I don't think a joke is ever worth making if you are going to dehumanize or degrade another person (especially if it's not even funny, which they are not- I feel calling them 'jokes' is a stretch since they're not even humorous or clever, just awkward).

I get the impression Paul is a very happy and stable person, and Terry is not, thus why Terry can't help but project his own self-loathing on Paul.

Every time Terry puts down Paul (which inevitably happens about 3 times per episode) I can't help but cringe and shake my head. It's so inappropriate and creepy and seems to be a thinly veiled way for Terry to demonstrate that he hates himself.

I'm glad a couple of people here see what we see. It doesn't always seem to be all in fun, this past episode proves that. Why did Terry need to post a pic of Paul to ask if he looked fat? Does he have nothing belter to do? I think maybe at first it started off as light hearted joking but lately he has been more disrespectful. maybe their relationship works that way, but it only seems that it comes from Terry's side and not Paul.
