AviNoir,

Here's an article about the movie.
https://www.yahoo.com/movies/monster-hunter-chinese-movie-trailer-hollywood-125173320352.html

"Alas, there’s no guarantee that curious American audiences will get a chance to see Monster Hunt anytime soon — at least not legally. Even a major hit like The Monkey King never found its way to U.S. audiences theatrically, and the only way to watch it now stateside is to buy it via shady import-DVD dealers, or find it via torrent sites. But perhaps Monster Hunt will be enough of a monster hit to force Wuba to take a trip to the U.S."

Possibly because the special effects are awful. It only works in countries not used to quality effects.

Its actually because the lead male role the guy is asian not white typically hollywood, AMC, all these name brand theaters like to display male lead roles getting the asian girl some example are "The Forbidden kingdom", "Last Samurai", "Golden Gate", Snow falling on Cedars", "Karate kid 2", the list goes on and on i could name about 20 of them each time I watch them I get more and more pissed off.

Lol, yeah, you're right. Those were all record smashing blockbusters. Theres huge cultural differences in humor and fables that might not work on american audiences. Kung fu hustle was one of a few exceptions that won audiences over here. Crouching tiger is another. But its rare. I enjoy alot of chinese, japanese, south korean cinema but its aquired taste here in the states. Im curious to see this but the effects do look pretty bad. Its to be expected. What it lacks in effects hopefully will make up in story, which is a strong suit for them.

Still the quality of the effects is awful,1990 awful. I think the racist aspect is possible buy highly unlikely. Plus, who cares about who gets which girl all races should marry each other as we are all the same, still I enjoy ed seeing chow Yun fat in the 90s with lead roles, tons. Then, he disappeared.

I wish all the people above who clearly haven't seen the film, would stop saying the effects are awful and like 90s effects. The effects are well done and pretty much seamless with the live action. If there is a weakness in the CGI, it is in the design of the creatures. They have made the monsters very cartoonish and cute looking but they've still been well rendered and animated. This aspect will not be to everyone's taste but kids will love it.

The CGI and special effects are excellent. The leads are attractive. The humor translates perfectly. The costumes and sets are interesting or downright gorgeous, and the scenery is spectacular. The only issue is that it isn't dubbed in English. Some people find it hard to watch a movie and read subtitles at the same time, especially when the characters are speaking rapidly and the subtitles are only given a 1-2 second flash.
