Syfy aired this at 11:30 pm on a Wednesday
I read that the movie was part of a Hispanic cultural program throughout the NBC Universal/Comcast networks. The broadcast time is kind of a joke. 11:30 pm for a debut? Doesn't exactly scream respect for the movie. If they thought it was worth airing, then they should have picked a more reasonable time.
Why not show it as a Syfy Original Movie? Contrary to the promos, Syfy doesn't show a brand new movie every week. Sometimes they show repeats of older Syfy movies. Sometimes they show big-budget movies, usually during Sweeps months. They could have aired this movie at 8 pm on a Saturday.
As for the movie, it might be too heavily influenced by The Matrix and similar sci-fi programs [Orphan Black, etc.]. (The Matrix itself borrowed heavily from many other sources.) The main difference is that the protagonist is a teenaged Hispanic girl, instead of Keanu Reeves. But it does have a different feel from the usual Syfy movie, which is a good thing.
Why would Syfy be so worried about airing this program during primetime? Having Spanish-language scenes is not something to hide. Popular sci-fi shows like Lost and Heroes had non-English scenes.
The movie might be a little uneven and derivative, but it holds up against the typical Syfy Original Movie. Perhaps a little slower than most of the Syfy Originals, but not bad.
