Not a bad movie but bad cinematography

I thought the movie was pretty good. I don't hate the lead actor as many people seem to.

But the look of the film is terrible. Too dark, washed out colors and generally lacking in crisp detail. In places it looks like there is a layer of dust over the camera lens.

Yeah, I'm one of those crazy people who actually likes to see what is in the frame.

reply

I liked it too. It's too bad it flopped so hard.

reply

Apparently it had to do with the theater it was seen in. Only certain projectors could do it justice, like cinematographer intended. Read that some months back I think right here on moviechat.

The actor was fine. I hated the cinematography, too. It was too dark and bad design work in most scenes. The script was bad too which puts to rest the idea that Kasdan has any talent.

reply

Agreed. Kasdan is hailed as some genius because he CO-WROTE, not even single handedly wrote, the script for ESB. Has he done anything good since? Look at what he did to TFA. Just awful.

reply

agree, no colors at all... compared to the 3 recent SW films , this looks like it's shot in black and white.... very dull

reply

I'm baffled Ron Howard made this movie. Love or hate his work, he usually shoots a gorgeous film.

reply

I assume it's partly due to the fact that he was hired after the previous directors were 75% of the way through shooting. A lot of material was re-shot, but not all of it.

reply

I guess if you think about it, maybe he's a brilliant director for adapting the shitty style of the other guys so the film would have a cohesive look.

reply

A bad movie. The part were they are fighting at dusk on a stormy dusty planet seems to have bled opinion over the entire quality of the cinematography.
The writing is tragically bad and the script is even worse than TLJ somehow.
