Star Wars: Why Kathleen Kennedy couldn’t be fired in 2018

On December 21st of 2018, Jon Kasdan, the writer of "Solo: A Star Wars Story" tweeted “Hard not to wonder how Solo might've faired if it had come out tonight.”
So what if had been released around Holidays, like the other Disney Star Wars movies. Would that have made any difference? Would the movie have been any better received then?

That would in no small part have depended on the audiences overall confidence in the Star Wars brand, and that confidence has taken a hit since the release of “The Last Jedi” one year ago. The one most responsible for that is Kathleen Kennedy, leaving many wondering why she hasn’t been fired yet.

In this editorial, @AndreEinherjar will give his take on all of this, by first exploring why releasing Solo in December might not have worked out as well as Kasdan would like to think, before explaining in detail why Kathleen Kennedy not only hasn’t been fired, but why her contract has even been extended – despite Disney by all accounts wanting to get rid of her.
