Lando's Closet scene- Conflicting feelings

Part of me enjoyed this scene quite a bit, the music was phenomenal, an I quite enjoyed the chemistry between QiRa and Han, reminiscing about their childhoods and plans for the future. It also is a great callback to the Han and Leia kissing scene on the millennium falcon in Empire Strikes Back.

However, the design of the closet feels a bit pedestrian, walk-in closets look as they would on Earth despite the ship having Hyperdrive. In some ways the scene's magic works because it is mundane, the setting feels like something that can happen in one's day to day life, unlike an encounter with a space Kraken.

However, I would have liked to have scene show something more novel and sci-fi, such as a compartment that immediately compresses air and clothes and makes a small space seem huge.

I see your point, but the purpose of having the scene in the room it was in was so they could say "Lando has lots of capes lol". it needed to be immediately obvious with no explanation that it's a closet, so they could laugh at his capes, and then carry on with the rest of the scene.
If we first saw the cape closet while Lando was giving them a tour of the Falcon, then yeah I agree it should have been more scifi, because the scene would be intending to show off a spaceship. But it was really just a dialogue scene in an amusing setting, with a cape joke thrown in.

Maybe it was a no so subtle comment on Lando being closeted...

reply

A closeted what? Droisexual?

reply

Oh, such options probably exist in that universe, but Lando is the kind of guy who would sacrifice precious shipboard space so his wardrobe would have the kind of room it deserved.

What I disliked about the scene is that it was all capes. Which was a try at a cheap joke that failed, and like all cheap jokes wasn't plausible. A clothes-horse like Lando should have a large and varied wardrobe - not just capes but the kind of elaborate robes they wear on Coruscant, casual wear of the best sort, military uniforms to use on con jobs, summer wear for desert planets, fur-lined cloaks for ice planets like Hoth, lightweight robes for desert planets, etc.

What for me the most was there are a couple of "official" Falcon floor plans that have been published over the years. None of them had room like that, that I can recall.

reply

Well if those floor plans dated from the ANH/TESB era, the differences could be explained by Han having owned the Falcon for ten years or so.

Would Han keep the master bedroom and large closet intact, when he could use that space for sensor-foiling equipment or something else useful to a smugglet? Heck no! And why does a guy like Han needs master bedroom anyway, when any woman alive would be happy to bring him home. Or just find a quiet nook somewhere.

All good points!

The best part was how Han's entire reason for doing what he was doing was out of pure desperation to find a way to go back and rescue QiRa ... only to meet her by chance and hardly react at all from an emotional stand-point and just catch up as they were work colleagues from a job he had a decade ago ..........................................................................
