now at 284m - same as John Carter

wow!

reply

The sad part is that I think John Carter is a better movie.

reply

funnily enough my JCarter dvd has 'Star Wars for a new generation' on the front. (I guess Disney hadn't figured on buying Lucasfilm at that point)

maybe they should release it and put 'Solo for the last generation' on it lol

reply

I wish we had gotten a sequel to John Carter. There are at least a half dozen books in the series.

reply

I've got the full Omnibus, but never read it. I didn't hate the movie.

As the headline suggests, Solo has become one of those relatively newfangled bombs which actually earns quite a bit worldwide ($250-$350 million) but costs so much that it turns out to be a huge loser anyway. So, yes, Solo has earned more than The Lone Ranger ($260m in 2013) and John Carter ($284m in 2012) and the likes of Green Lantern, Jack the Giant Slayer and Battleship. But to see Solo pulling these kind of numbers is a little remarkable, as for the first time Star Wars has joined the ranks of ordinary men.

now at 321m - same as Robin Hood (2010)

reply

I am totally surprised it passed $300m, only took 20 days! Could it make it to 400m?

reply

No way, will probably end around 350-375

reply

now at 339m - just passing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (336m)

reply

Wow! passed PoP! What great news for this awesome movie. I cant wait til it hits the magical 400m number.

reply

I think you in for a long wait

reply

now at 343m - same as Star Trek Beyond

reply

now at 346m - same as xXx: The Return of Xander Cage

reply

Not Xander Cage! This Solo movie is climbing fast!

reply

now at 353m - same as XMen First Class

reply

actually looking at the domestic comparisons its done quite well - now at 202m - same as WWZ, Cinderella, and just passing Spectre, Godzilla. and should end up with about a 210m total (BatBegins, MI4, Fast 5, 300, Dawn Apes, Sherlock 1 etc)

its just been let down by the awful foreign box office (like Bat Begins which it'll prob end up doing similar overall)

reply

Quiet well? It's going to lose around $100 million, and is drastically lower than other modern blockbusters. They expected this to do a $1 billion+ (and needed it to).

reply

was just looking at the domestic when compared to other movies around the same.. but yeh compared to what a SW movie shud do dom/foreign its an absolute disaster
